My treat...... (FYI)
« on: May 17, 2012, 01:04:16 am »
Have I got a treat for you guys. I have managed to get on board Kevin Dubrosky.

For those of you that do not know Kevin, he is a window cleaning marketing guru from Canada.

He is going to be helping us out with marketing your business and creating a successful window cleaning business.

Check it out in the July edition of www.windowcleaningmagazine.co.uk

He is a good guy with some interesting and useful suggestions.

Sadly he was hounded off this site, so this post may fall on deaf ears.

Although he did come up with some OK suggestions, I don't think he took sufficient account of the cultural differences between the UK and his home area.  There were things that may work very well in Canada/USA but over here, the potential customer would be looking at you like you were mentally unstable.

I agree - Kevin specifically brought up the culture differences aspect and encouraged me to check the work and make the Brit changes if I need to. Thing is marketing is the same here as it is over there. A little intelligence or common sense is sometimes required.

I am not surprised, when you say that he was on here and got hounded off. He is with out a doubt a legend in his field and sheer ignorance of others shouldn't ruin it for the rest that seriously want to learn about growing a successful window cleaning business :)

It's true about the cultural differences. I think if you removed the specifics and looked at the general points he was making it is sound advice.

I adapted several suggestions (rather than cut and paste) and had a great results. I was saddened that the 'mob culture' took over as he is a genuine good guy.

Well don't you worry, Kevin has joined the window cleaning magazine promising exclusive content for my readers.

We have kicked started this off with content in July's issue. He has a very interesting book out too called 600 dollars per hour that we are publishing excerpts from.

Think its chapter 4 of the book we publish in the next issue. Its all great stuff.

that reminds me he never did sent me the book.

I will take interest in reading that to see if Kevin is coming up with anything different which can be adapted to the UK market.

I vaguely recall - was he the guy who suggested things like small gifts (chocs etc) to incentivate larger domestics and suggested a flyer with a couple getting amorous and the headline "keep your bedroom moments private - hire a window cleaner with a waterfed pole" ?

Or was that someone else?
It's a game of three halves!

That does not sound like Kevin's advice. It does sound like this american guy who suggested delivering cup cakes etc his advice was more of wooing a customer if I remember.

Kevin dives into some of the psychology and human nature stuff...... as well as sound constructive ways to grow and market.

Sort off.

It was a piece that a UK window cleaner initiated that kevin polished up. It wasn't the best of ideas to start with but when you saw the original then the polished version you could see the benefit of his advice.

He has used small gifts with good results, but bear in mind the clients are paying $100's for a service which we dont supply in the uk.

I adapted the choc idea for referalls and it worked well. My own 'marmite' flyer even got a mention on Karl Robinsons Blogspot.

For those who have used his forum or got his book the 'Neighbour Letter' is a real winner.

Hi Lee
Great news for all on here I think
Anyone who has been sucessful in their chosen field is always worth listening to.Whilst not everyone will buy into the whole mantra of these 'guru' style businessmen, even if you can glean a few snippets of really useful business ideas and implement them, then you are doing a great job on your own business. After all , we are not all Lord Sir Knight Alan Sir Sugar Of Alan  but this might help you get there!
Good to speak to you the other day by the way- how did you get on with the trackers?

regards
