I've got spots!!!
« on: May 14, 2012, 08:33:30 pm »
Hi
Did 8 not too big houses and 5 bungalows today - switched from trad to wfp for first time - did a bit of explaining when necessary but overall it went O.K.
No letters or leaflets if they were in explained what's happening if not gave it a try.
Some of these are collect jobs so had a good chance to look at the end result later this evening.
The biggest problem seems to be on top of the bottom pane - just under the cross frame under the fanlights.
I washes 'n washes the top of the frame then down the sides to the bottom.
Washes 'n washes the glass sideways working top to bottom.
Washes 'n washes down the glass vertically again from top to bottom to move everything down - tapping the brush at the bottom of each downsweep to clean the muck off.
Finish off by full flow rinsing brush off across gradually down the pane.
Still got spots :(
They've all paid so not too serious but bugging me!
g.

1st time switching from trad to wfp your most likely to get spots on 70% your of your houses and you will think wfp is crap.

2nd month down to 10% you will see this clean, that most of your houses will come up good.

3rd month windows will look cleaner than ever before and you should be picking up speed and earning higher
my advice is rince well dont skimp on water.

What do you mean by fan lights?

If you mean the little vents and you have got water in them they will drip down the windows long after you have gone and cause spotting.

thats not really true is it, we use this to cover are asses mostly if cleaned right then most houses will not spot on first cleans.

my guess is you have not cleaned them right mate, spend more time at the top of the frame and where the glass meets the frame and this problem should stop happening

Simple solution - I would NEVER tell a customer to live with a bad job - clean the house twice.  First time, good scrub, good rinse just like you are doing.  Wait five mins for all runs to do their worst then back around the whole house and just do the glass.

It'll be perfect.  In future, you'll only have to do it once.

If it takes two cleans to give a perfect result, give the customer two cleans.

I agree, all first cleans should be done this way... Invest your time now and reap the rewards later....

I agree and also give first cleans a second glass only clean!
first time round is everything making sure the tops of frames as given a bloody good scrubbing second time round is just the glass then rinse like mad

i agree i had a bungalow first clean the other day which i cleaned first with squeegee pure water and windscreen additive to get rid of the tree sap (mature gardens) wiped the frames with scrim. then wfp twice took nearly 50 minutes but when I drove past later on in the day I had a good look and they were absolutely spotless and gleaming.

It will be worth it because the customer will have no complaints and the maintenance cleans will be straightforward and fast. the bungalow owner was at work which gives an opportunity to ecperiment i find.

saying it will take time for the spotting to go is a bit of a cop out do it as many times as it takes to make them perfect spend extra time on the picture windows that look onto gardens, views and kitchen sink window and use all the weapons in your arsenal scrim, microfibre, shammy, squeegee, scraper. you are a window cleaner not a wfper so get the windows clean!

Looks like I need more than Clearosill!!!
Thanks a lot all - some good tips.
I think I'm not waiting long enough for the drips off the frames to run off before starting the second clean on the glass.
Just like being back at school.
Tries hard but could do better !!!!!!
