Truckmount Regrets? (Poll)
« on: January 13, 2006, 09:50:34 pm »
We dont often hear of Truckmount owners who regret buying the machine?

But if you have spent £10,000 plus on a machine you may not want to admit that you made a mistake?

So vote in the Poll  ;D  No one will know its you  ;)

Cheers

Haven’t voted as all the machines I have brought do the bizz! Would I sell it? Yes! But the buyer would have to pay a premium new one would be cheaper.

Has anyone actualy proved that a truckmounts cleans better than a good portable.

yes it maybe quicker, but does the extra power make any difference. carpets only need so much

I'm interested as I dont believe that truckmounts clean any better. Is the extra power needed or is just boys wanting big toys.

In life there is an element of 'boys wanting bigger toys' but as carpet cleaners we are not millionaires, no sane person would spend upto £22k on a truckmount just to satisfy his primal urges.

knowledge cleans carpet not machines but we are all in the bussiness of making money and creating a more enjoyable work enviroment, a truckmount is a tool to help us achieve that.

Hi Guys
I used to be involved in comercial carpet cleaning in London some years ago
and I allways wanted a Truckmount . But we could never park very close to
the building we had to work in (often two or three streets away) or we would be working on the top floor of a large office block. How do you get your hoses
to reach.

Neil,
its an old arguement put by porty owners.
Tm's have more water pressure, more vaccuum and more heat than your average portable, so do you think they will do a better or worse job?

Used portys for 12 years, Now using truckmount. Been unable to reach 2 jobs last year due to being unable to park. Had porty in van but just couldn't be bothered to drag it out.

Mr woods

I cary enough hose to reach almost any job, the last was on the 9th floor and still sucking like a "well a lot" but have recetley cleaned corridoors of hotel and used a porty, sometimes it's just easier

I asked the question a little while ago but got limited response about the facts on maintanace cleaning (porty) and restoration cleaning (TM)

So how much pressure and vacuum is enough. Are we porty boys wasteing our time and not giving the customer the best job available. I know from quoting that this is what cc's with truckmounts say to the customers.

On all the training courses I have been on we had it drilled into us that all the work is done in the prep before HWE or is this wrong as well.

I understand that it is quicker but is the extra power really needed.

I understand the advantage for commercial work but if you are doing domestic and 10 good jobs a week spending 6 hours a day cleaning is it not just over kill or am i not getting the customers carpets clean.

Is it really the more power you have the better it will clean, at what point does it not change and wont get any cleaner

This has all been said before many times, the way to tell is to use both systems and then come to your own conclusion.

I know what I'd rather use.
I get better looking each day!!

Neil, your spending 6 hours a day cleaning because you use a porty. With a t/m I have cleaned upto 5 jobs in a day ( ok some were just one room), but I normally do 3 jobs a day, start at 9:30 when the school runs are over and am home about 4  or 5 ish. Dont kill myself to do it and would rather not do a job than use my ninja.

Hi Dave

I still earn between £350 and £500 everyday so it does not bother me if I have to fill up a few extra buckets of water. It does not kill me and I can take my time. Only time I do 3 jobs a day when Xmas is coming just to get that little extra. 2 Jobs is enough as I have to do all the marketing aswell and this is the most important thing

Whilst the water is getting upto temp I do the vac and pre spray so everything is ready for HWE. How many of you Truckmount boys do the Vac and Pre Spray.  I always come across this with customers saying that the previous cleaner never did that first. Its all in the Prep. I know their are portable users that dont do it as well so this is not an attack on Truckys

Dave you are local to me, it would me nice to get to know you as its always good to no the locals.

Cheers

There always seems to be an argument about TIME, fair enough a TM does save you time (proven) but it's not always about making more time for more work as the work needs to be there first and this is always the case,

I agree with Neil the time would is prob used up on extra customer care or advertising, but doesnt this make our service better (not than porty users just in general) abit more time for a chin wag and cup of tea and biscuit with custy

But If TM users save an hour a day
5 days a week  (some work 6)
46 weeks a year   (thats six weeks off holiday)  :o
over 35 years   (we all want to retire early)

THATS 8050 hours
THATS 335.5 days      :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Thats nearly a hole year off your life your not working  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Just anouther way to look at it

Neil, are you saying you dont do anymore than 2 jobs per day except Xmas, yet you still earn about £400 per day average with a portable.

So everyday you get top high quality work and never a day where its one room here & there and you keep this up everyday.

I am seriously doing somthing wrong here! :(

By the way I am astonished 6 people regret moving up to a TM from a portable, I would love those people to give their reasons why.

Hi Nigel
what do you do when you have to park 2 streets away as is often the
case in the West End and the City of London
