newbie wfp system question
« on: May 04, 2012, 04:15:55 pm »
hi there, i've just bought some second hand kit and part of it was a trolley mounted wfp system. I've read the instructions for the surflo system and it's set a 50 so getting lots of water coming out of the brush, it's a resin system not RO. Question is when I practiced it on my own home my results were rubbish. I've done the research and followed advise in somuch that it  takes three or so attempts to get a good result if the window has never been done using a clear water type system but still getting droplet marks etc.

any advise is welcome....

Do you have a TDS Meter?

I'd think being based in London your primary filtration would need to be an RO system with DI resin to polish it off. I'm out in Essex and our water comes out of our taps at around a 400 'tds' reading, far too high for a Resin only system.

I'm based in North Norfolk using Anglian water. What's a TDS system?

Sorry bout the mix up with your location. Your profile lists your location as London.

The water WFPers use has to be pure for it to work well. The impurities in the water are referred to  as TDS (total dissolved solids) and is measured in PPM (Parts Per Million). A TDS meter will enable you to test your water's purity. It needs to be below 010 PPM but preferably as close to 000 for it to be effective for cleaning windows.

My 300 gallon/day RO from Pure Freedom reduces my tap water from 400 to 018 and my DI filter takes it down to 000.

If your supply has a reading of more than 030 I would think you need an RO system as your primary filtration. However, I'm sure there will be more advice on this.

My tap TDS reading is about 60. Im currently just going through a DI which is taking it to 000. I think by doing this, I will need to change resin more often, but I have got a RO sat in the garage doing nothing, just incase I need it. (due to having to change resin to often)

Id say if your tap reading is 80 +, you should use a RO first, before going through a DI. (Others might disagree with me, Im new to the WFP game so will be happy to hear others thorghts)

Ive noticed that first cleans do dislodge bits of dirt in the frames that you would never get to using the traditional methods, so if your results were poor, maybe try again once or twice with the pole, and see if the results have improved.

OK many thanks, I'll invest in a TDS meter, however if my results show that it's high, can you recommend a suitable RO system for a start up?

Have a look at RO-mans website or eBay and get yourself 100-300 gallon a day system you can add extra filter to the 100 gallon to up it to 300 gallon later on if money is tight. Have a look at pure freedom for tulsion resin. I think they're doing it cheapest ATM and remember I said TULSION, that's the best in my book!
