Drought. Whats the status of the reservoirs?
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:05:25 am »
Since they announced a hose pipe ban it has done nothing but rain.
Not great for us but good for the water companies.

Anyone know if its done much good? just wondering if the reservoirs have filled much.

nope local one to me still half empty this rain is just a drop to what we need for
the lack of rain in the last three autumn and winters.

we need a wet summer and autumnn to return the water table to normal

Apparently it's the 'wrong type of rain.' they must need dry rain or something. I just put it down to bad management of their resources

people are moaning a the moment about the amount of rain we are
having but this is the first time in ages that our weather patterns which traditionally
happened every year in this country have been correct.

if you think we have anywhere near normal levels of wet weather apart from the far
north and west you are sadly deluded.

to blame bad mismanagement which happens is a easy thing to say and is only
a part of the problem and it is easy to close your eyes to the fact that we really havent enough
rainfall in the last few years, over the last century we have able to rely on our climate
supply the water thats been needed and we have become complacent for me this is
where their has been  mis management,we are an island afterall surely the infrastructure
for desalination could of been introduced over time but no! complacency

our climate is changing and no longer can we rely on the seasons and if we continue
to have these periods of flood and relatively long  periods of dry weather in large parts
of britain without introducing technology such as desalination in the long term we
will end up in trouble

i think they are refferring to the quick and heavy fall we are having over short periods of time
that either just runs off or drys up quickly as opposed to the steady type that goes on for hours
and sometimes days which allows the ground to soak the water up.

the drying effect i see myself its amazing how quickly the ground drys aftr a hour or
two of heavy rainfall.

All fine here no hosepipe ban we don't draw water from rivers or reservoirs. Lucky
I was speaking to a customer who has a 80ft bore hole, they said the water table is high and never dropped that much.

mother nature has an ability to rebalance itself .  which we are seeing at the moment the water table will be benefit  from the constant down pour. and by the forecast its not due to stop. wettest april in a long long time .

We collect 12-15%

Spain and Portugal collect 75%, and have 90% less rainfall.

Do the math

dont they use desalination!

12-15% just shows the complacency i was on about in a previous post due to
the abudance of rain over the years.

spain have had to be more efficient over the years and we havent looks
like its time for change unfortunately that will need new infrastructure and guess
who will end up paying for that

Our well ran dry in December - first time in 300 years.

Problem seems to be that the ground is extremely hard and the rain is running off into the rivers instead of soaking in. One unclassifed road near me used to have water running across it as the table was higher than the it was. It's now dropped about 20 feet below the road and all you can now see is a muddy bit.

'england=joke' what are you on about? we've had below average rainfall for the last 18 months so there is a water shortage- simple as that.  if you'd rather live in a country where they have no democracy, or no minimum wage etc then go for it.  we are extremely lucky to live in a country like england- we have absolutely nothing to worry about compared to most other parts of the world.
sorry to moan but i really hate the whole 'this countries not what it used to be' mentality- its completely misplaced

There is too many people using the water.

A few liberals might think a bit harder about immigration if they can`t water their own garden.

Immigration is causing the drought?

You should be writing for the Daily Mail.
