selling more protector
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:32:06 pm »
been wearing this utility vest for a while and the interest in protector has shot up.... I would say 80% of people ask about it,

its a nice passive way to sell more protector, might be worth thinking about if you want to push  protection sales

Cracking vest Mike.

Must say I do try to sell protector but this is a great way of getting the customers to ask you.

peter i pencil drew the design of the words and umbrella logo, then got my graphic designer mate to create the actual design.

I then got my local embroidery guy to put it on my utility jacket and 2 other  jackets

I know it's old ground but asking your client "would you like your carpets protecting?" the easy answer for them to say is NO! getting them to ask you is a far easier sale, it's the same as door knocking for carpet cleaning or getting some pre prepared to call you ready to buy.

I hate to be a stick in the mud....but what happens when Mrs Smith calls back 6 months later and says; I have a poo load of stains in my carpet...but you protected it?

I'v often been to new custys who say tha last cleaner applied protection, but there are stains.

A possible way not to retain would be regular customers and future reccomendations.

I never upsell protection and if they ask, I tell it how it is

I tend to undersell it, I'll tell them exactly what to expect,...... the protector will make the removal of stains easier, it does not stop the carpet becoming dirty.

Well said Mike...like everything else in this world it isn't bullet proof,,,, so long as you are honest the custy appreciates that... but seeing as protection is a multi million pound industry i'm going to plug it for my cut..

You do have to believe in it and providing you prepare the fibres and apply it properly then there is a great benefit to it, I cleaned and protected my daughters nylon bedroom carpet only last week and she spilled orange juice on it I wasn't there when she 'did nothing to it!!!' but the next day it extracted out with plain water.

I would agree with that Mike....but not the context of you first post ''Selling more protector''

To sell it, you have to make a customer believe in it.
If you'v had a regular customer for years and then you turn up with the ''T'' shirt and umberella logo and she says ....hey I want my carpet protecting.
You then say ok, its an extra ££ to have the carpet protected....however it will give you extra time to blot the spill and there is less chance of permanent staining and thats about it. If you tell them the truth....you will also tell them that if you spill a fresh cup of boiling hot tea on your wool carpet, it will permanently stain whether you have protection or not. And if the kids spill drinks on the carpet while your not there....it's gunna stain.

If you tell the customer the truth then they will probably not pay the extra and you will retain the customer.

The only way to sell it, is to lie or make them believe it is bullet proof...then they will pay for it.

It doesn't happen often...but occasionally I get a new custy saying the previous company protected my carpet, but it's stained.
I wouldn't like it  to be one of my previous custys. Not only would I have lost them, but my reputation with recomendations.
