CHAS
« on: April 25, 2012, 01:08:42 pm »
Hi just come out of a meeting with Local Authority H&S guy -  taking advantage of my last few days for "inside info."
£70 to register and a shed load of paperwork even talked about a COSHH statement for the diesel in the van!!!
Anyway - anyone reckon it's worth it?
Do commercials insist on it?
I picked up a new customer on Saturday and he has asked me to look at 2 office buildings he owns in town - they have to be done WFP he told me.
He seems pretty clued up - he inspected the van and all the gear even talked about Thermo system.
Just wondering how impressed commercials would be with CHAS certification.

We've just 'passed' our CHAS assessment. It's not widely known at the moment but I think it will be an essential tool soon used by all local authorites and housing associations, this will then cascade to most major commercial clients. For the sake of a small outlay it's worth doing.

We've been CHAS for a few years. Also Constructionline and SMAS.

I wouldn't recommend any of them if being done solely to get extra work. We have had nothing through any of them, directly at least.

Indirectly, a lot of large firms insist on at least one of these anyway, and you have to pay for the privilage regardless or you're out. For this reason alone for us, it makes sense.

One other plus point, if you're ropey on your H & S then you'll find any of these schemes have people willing to help and advise. You'll end up being more aware if nothing else.
