wfp start up..how many houses ?
« on: April 17, 2012, 07:25:10 am »
Morning guys. We're gonna be converting from trad to wfp soon after 7 years.

We've done a fair bit of research into wfp but just need to ask a couple of things.

I know you cant be exact but...

how many " average " 3 or 4 bed houses, maybe 1 in 3 with a con , can 2 men in 1 van with 2 reels do in a day working 8 hours.

Please dont turn this into a competition of " I can do more than you  "

We just want some numbers.

cheers

How many do you do trad at present per day, based on the same formula

2 trad men at the minute we can do around 20-24  houses a day. Obviously theres a few bungalows in that numbers as there always is.

you can do about 30 i recon by 2.30 if you start at 8 with two of you on poles, however, it will take you about 4 -6 months to get fast, you will actually be a bit slower than you were at first while you learn the system, correct you misstakes and believe it or not re-learn your round !

that's s good information thanks

We are quite sensible blokes who have a good relationship with our customers and we're confident about speaking to our customers about wfp,  but,  we're not stupid either and we're aware some people will just not embrace the change.

What percentage should we expect to lose going to wfp ?

my own oponion is 50% more than that, and still think its slow, I know people on here will moan, but spoke to my mother the other day, and asked how many terraced houses my father did per day, it was just 2 windows about 43 inches by 30 inches, and a fanlight, fronts only, and this was with wash leather & scrim, just after the war, and he used to do hundreds per day, if anone wants exact figure, email me, to save the arguments on here, then when he had a lad doing tops only, with him doing bottoms & collecting money, it was massive. There is big money in terraced fronts

The ones that don't want change, can you not stay trad with...? I have an 80-20 mix of wfp and trad,

Graham

Hi Julian
as your just converting over, you may find that your daily numbers will actually fall for a while, but within a month or two you will be back up to where you were
I think the question may be too broad based for a definative answer(water carraige, compaction of round etc..) but I have a couple of guys who are quick and thorough and they hit good numbers of between 20 - 30 per day(driving distances included)
This also allows them time to get in a conny roof or a bit of fascia cleaning etc..
Whilst im not calling in to doubt your work ethic, one recent convert I spoke to(27 yrs trad!!) said that he felt as if he had to re-learn his entire round to allow for getting all the frames done as well and it took him ages to get used to working with a pole
Perhaps just concentrating on the quality of the finish when you get your setup will be paramount rather than numbers in the early days?

Hope that helps

Good luck- Roy :)

Hi Roy, im Julians Business partner

We were talking the other day about this, and feel that it will be like going back to day one window cleaning, as at the moment we have a nice set up (7 years in the making), we know where to park van, we know where the ladder has to go, and all the other small details about our customers houses and whats involved in cleaning the windows on any particular job.

We clean all the frames every time any way so this shouldnt add much time to a clean but we understand that from the moment we turn up we dont know how it works, ie, where to park, any obstacles, how much hose to unwind etc etc.
Then not only that as the round is set up for trad this may also not be practical  for WFP, as eventually when we do speed up we will have to condense work down to make the days bigger there again is an issue as we will have to re write all our work sheets. LOL

The feeling is its a massive task but one we want to get right straight from the off, but there will always be something that trips us up. We just want to cover all bases and have solutions for potential problems.

Julian has knocked up a WFP round with our current customer base but we just want to be sure that its achievable, based on what others do as a base for our figures. Merely as a loose guide i suppose.

they probably cleaned between 150 to 200 terraced houses a day if the houses were in one area

if you only have a few customers maybe, your always going to lose some as they don't understand (after being educated) or just don't like it.

I would say about 5/10% figure of lose is about right, but at the same time you will bit the same if not more back up at the same time getting the extra windows you can't get right now.

None if you sell it right to your custies :)
Andy as you have a great avatar, give me a call tomorrow and I will give you some knowledge and answers to help you I will be in my offive most of the day ;)
