Is anybody giving this a go?

It would be good to know if you are or if you aren't and the listen to the reasons why, we got a £500 a quarter and 2 £100 a month jobs from the site so I don't need to answer personally. :-)

Is anybody else going for it?

Sorry - not for us - rather spend the money on other forms of advertising

while i know where you are coming from and agree every biz needs to advertise but it also need to be generating more work/income than its costing you - otherwise you end up making no money when a job finally comes in - all you have done is give your cash to others. - we have tried many forms of advertising some has worked some not - but the vast majority of new income comes from canvassing - reccomendations or just some1 seeing the van.

by the by - i thought res areas were £20 pm & commercial £30 ?  so you have 4 areas ( 2 res/2 com for £6 each )

It's even tougher than that if you thin it through more deeply.  What you need from this (all other things being equal) is for it to generate new customers cheaper than your best current method.

If a hundred quid on this site generates £200 of business, it still doesn't make sense to do it if a hundred quid on, say, leaflets would generate £400.

^ I agree. The term "paid for itself" is used on this site far too loosely.

I may not have had any new business from this method of advertising yet, but what I have got from it so far is to block my competition from using it, as only one advertiser can have my area   ;)

But when it does pay for itself, who's the winner then?

I done the trial period, but won't be renewing, not had one call from it.
I have picked up quite a bit since last year when NWC started, but nothing from them, all from my own advertising, mostly from my own website.
I had one new customer ask, if I done my own work or do I sub out, as she wanted to know who she as dealing with, she didn't want just any Tom, Dick or Harry, and this was a  £240 house, as I say from my own website, definately best way of advertising.
