Schindlers window cleaning business
« on: April 06, 2012, 12:21:48 pm »
Going on from Richy wilts holiday pay thread,

How are the guys who employ a few guys finding paying their staff holiday pay?

I wouldn't begrudge anybody a holiday, especially if its hard earned, but holiday pay is now around 5.6 weeks per employee.

I've got 4 full time lads on my books so it works out that I have to find 22.4 weeks holiday pay and tax and insurance stoppages per year.

If you had 10 guys working for you, you would have the equivelent of 1 guy off for 13 months at a time.

Not good is it?

Its like operating a factory like oskar schindler did on the film schindlers list where you are just fixing people up with work for no gain.

Anyway, now that's off my chest.

Have a good weekend.

Dean.

I know it,s tough. But the law says we have to do it. It all has to be factored into the pricing.

surely thats why you have a biz rate of £XX   and employ at £Y per hour ?

i do get the impression that some on here begrudge paying anything for staff at all - let alone heven forbid holiday
pay so the staff can lounge about at home while taking all your monies.....

if you cant afford to pay their statuary rights then you are not charging enough for your work.

how many of you would work for/have worked for a cr@ppy boss that made life unpleasant because you wanted time
with the family or simply time away from work ?

treat staff how you would like to be treated !!

I get what you're saying Daz,

I don't mind working for free but they don't like it for some reason??

Windows should be enjoyed and cherished.

Have you ever employed anybody? Your theory works well on paper but some employee's don't treat you as they would like to be treated. I'm not saying that mine do that as it would be wrong to slag people off on a forum.

Even fixing people up with a job is a challenge in its own right never mind trying to make money from them.

Has John Nolan called you about droitwich m+co?

sorry - this is news to me ??????????????

currently i employ on a self employed basis ( good cop out ! ) as we are still a growing biz and we pay a % of the days work
rather than a set hourly wage - we are debating our next step forward

as a line manager my duties were to recruit - so i have some experience - and yes unfortunately the employee will not always
treat the boss in a fair manner.

Exactly, I dont get why people employ then moan when they have to pay, legally, things such as holiday pay. Dont you allow for that when you have a business plan. Stop bloody moaning for Gods sake and live with it or get out.

I dont begrudge the holidays as it is factored in and the work load increases.

Let your accountant deal with this Dean, I stopped doing all that stuff as it did my head in, I now dont work bank holidays (unless there is cause to) I used to work and pay the extra wages, now just take them off, although double bank holidays are a pain in the A$$ to be fair

I don't think you should compare yourself to Oskar Schindler, just yet, Dean.
And it wasn't just a film.

Yes you are correct,

Are you Jewish by the way?

I don't mean to cause offence its just an analogy.

Window cleaning in general can be very distressing at times.

No, I'm not Jewish.
I imagine it can be distressing with employees; enough already.

Its one of the reasons why employing staff is not all its cracked up to be. They take a paid holiday, then they go sick, then they leave and take a load of your customers with them.
