buying a brand new van
« on: April 05, 2012, 10:32:42 pm »
I'm seriously considering buying a brand new van, i've got a fair amount of savings so plan on paying off over half as a deposit,

is it worth it though? i'm considering keeping this van for 10 years plus so not put off by depriciation i want the best van for the job with no need to upgrade.

If you want a van to last, and are not worried about the name , and buying new go for a Hyundai iload. Fantastic amount of van for the money, unbieveable warrantey, great bit of kit

I did the same last year , with the same view as yourself.

I went with Toyota, previous one was 16 yrs old when I sold it, had to replace the diff after 8 yrs only thing I ever did and I abused the thing as well.

I have a swb 95 bhp version, quick enough, though I'm not a racer and lovely to drive. All new cars come with 5 yrs, not sure about the Vans though, mine had a 3 yr warranty.

Was chatting to Andy Leett ( member here) he knows of VW Transporters @ £11k approx + VAT 6 months old presume ex fleet

They look superb vans, I've got a '07 1.3td & it's been great.

Biggest downside to the new one is I wish they would have put 3 seats in the front! I would want 3 seats in my next van.

Guess you need a good test drive, wouldn't have thought the pay load would be low. Looks a great van though.

youre right,a good test drive will be a must. maybe a day out in it somewhere, itll be no good  just a quick run around the block-too important to take a chance
maybe even hire one  for a few days to see if its loved or hated ,its just ideas going thru my mind,
iv looked a bit online and can find no reviews on whether  they are liked/disliked by the drivers

Just got the 1.6 SX,105bhp version of the maxi,6 months old so a big saving on buying brand new.The big plus with the maxi apart from the 1000kg payload is, even with the solid bulkhead I can still fit my poles in the back.

Do it!!
We bit the bullet 4 years ago and bought a brand new Vauxhall Vivaro with 1 mile on the clock :-)
We plan on keeping it till it dies. We havent had 1 thing to do to it rather than the consumable stuff and we have taken care of it so it still looks like new. We just hit 60,000 miles and it still drives perfect.

You'll never get back what you pay for a vehicle and if you keep it for ages and take care of it it effectively pays for itself as it will be looked after.

Also we have picked up loads of work from the van as its an image thing round here, customers see us as a business who must be doing ok as they can afford a new van rather than the guy who works from his family car or a battered older van and may be gone tomorrow
But i suppose on the other hand you may get the people who think sod him he can afford a new van im not having him do my windows!!! LOL

Oooooo that is shiny!!

When looking at a new Vivaro a few months back the following site had some good discounted deals.

It's all about doing your sums. You may find that you can get a new van for the same total repayable as a nearly new.

Just be mindful of leasing etc. There are some very dodgy deals that look great until you delve.

I always buy new vehicles, car and van and have never regretted it once. Second hand vans always have doubts over whether they have had the proper oil changes etc and thats vital with modern diesels.

I worked it out that if I bought a new car and run it for 10 years I would now be on my 3rd and would have saved loads of lolly. I dread to think how much I have spent on cars over the years.

You could probably have had two and kept them both 15 years. One in three secondhand vehicles has false milage. Many have not been serviced properly, if at all. Vans being worse than cars in this respect.

I have a Transit  with a 650litre system so just filling 12 25l containers for the doblo from the van mount,if I was goin to get a tank for the doblo I would go for the 500l.Only negative for me with the doblo is the turning circle is terrible.
