How to prime water pump
« on: April 05, 2012, 09:52:24 pm »
Hi all.

I opted to buy a 13hp honda pressure washer and have a question.

Do I need to prime the water pump before starting the machine or will it start drawing as soon as the engine starts.
If it needs primimg, how do I do that? Forgot to ask the supplier and he's closed now.

Thanks

Run the water through the suction hose then connect to the pump, leave to tickover and wait for the bubbles in the tank and then rev it

As BDCS said but also if it is a new machine you should have an instruction manual with it  ;)  :)

if your container water level is above the pump it will gravity feed into the pump, if its lower then the pump will have to pull it through

i used an old wheely bin with the 6ft of hose connected to the bottom, when the bin was full i would lower the hose below the water level and allow it to spurt out, then stick my finger over it, then connect it to the machine...... sound complicated but it was a 5 second job.

i never liked to just stick my hose over the top of the bin and let it dangle into the water

Add drain valve to pump  ;D

How do you guys restart your machines ?
Do you have to hold your gun trigger to release pressure ?

Ah those were the days before electric start - my old pull cord Honda had the valve on the pump head to relieve the pressure and air.

Yeah its not great. they would make easy money if they let you buy direct from the site. although in the letter they said they wanted to start sending invoices via email and payment via bacs
