Today I saw the worst window cleaner I have ever seen
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:23:01 pm »
I have seen a few real dingbats over the years but this man takes the cake. Working in a road I do regularly an old Vauxhall Astra comes down the road with a set of old B&Q ladders on the top. He stops and eyeballs me then drives on and parks round the corner although there was parking in the road.

Then he comes back carrying the ladder, head down and no eye contact. He went to the house opposite stood the ladder against the house and pulls a dirty old grey cloth from his back pocket and proceed to rag all the windows. Just the middle, never touches the corners at all. Where he does do its the briefest wipe imaginable and its on to the next. He missed the one above the porch altogeather.

The he knocks, customer comes out and pays him. Seems happy  :o and hands him what looks like  several coins. Loads up and is gone

This business never ceases to amaze me. What some people get away with

we had a lot of houses that had small panes and we scrimed them and as long as they got done regular you could just dry scrim them ,very hard work if you do that all day ;)

seriously why do you care? just look after your own customers, and I have scrimmed many a window with no complaints, as for the window above the porch I am sure he has explained it can't been done trad and charges accordingly

last week, i was behind a guy at the lights , with a homemade pointer ladder on his car roof. it was an Abru Starmaster ,about 3metre long  , where the top 3 rungs were missing and the ends bent together and then the tip was neatened up by binding the tip in what looked like insulation tape.

It'd be interesting to know how long he's been doing her windows and what she thinks of the job he does for the money he charges

when I was a kid my mother had a window cleaner who was absolutely hopeless, much as the description of you give of this guy only he would even miss windows that were in easy reach even with a ladder. I remember being off school sick one day when he turned up. He smeared wet bird muck all over my bedroom window with a dry scrim and left the bathroom window altogether. Our windows were always smeary. I asked my mum why she kept him on and she said, "Because he's a nice old man. He's always smiling and he always has a little joke before he goes. I can't pack him up."

I suppose the windows may have been dirtier if he hadn't been 'cleaning' them at all.
