« on: January 09, 2006, 08:38:08 am »
hi all i am quoting a car show room tomarrow, can anyone help? the sq footage, now do i ask the client off the top of their heads, do they know how many sq ft it is or do you guys bring a tape masure with you, not sure what to do on this one, because just scanning the size of the room and trying to work out how long its going to take to clean seems a bit daft especially if there is the odd tyre mark, there has to be some way to do it any help would be appreached regards blacksheep

Hi blacksheep
My line usually is to ask how many staff do the existing contractor have (for TUPE reasons I usually say), and how long they are there for. Also it will depend on how prestigious the dealership is eg a merc dealer may want there floors mopped & buffed every, where as another dealer may want them done weekly.
Just a thought anyway
Regards
Tim

'Eyeballing it' is exactly the way to do it. I have never measured a building in my whole career.

Take an office building for instance...........

First  floor is 10,000 sq feet and is occupied by 20 people. There are a lot of open spaces.

Second floor is also 10,000 sq feet. and is occupied by 75 people all crammed in like sardines.

The second floor is obviously going to take longer to clean (more desks, filing cabinets etc.)

There is no substitute for looking at an area and asking yourself the question........."If I had to clean that - how long would it take me?"

Car showrooms are no different but as Tim said, be certain of the standard required. Also the frequency as most showrooms open seven days a week.

One other thing to be careful of.  A lot of showrooms have white (yes - white) ceramic tiled floors. They look lovely in the summer but are a nightmare in winter after the salesmen have thrown orange grit/salt all over the forecourt!

thanks for your help, both, by the phone conversation, it sounds like a family bussines by the name and its one of the big names in dealerships a bit off my patch, so if i get the job i will have to staff it streight away, cost me to much in petrol to get there, once a week would be ok, to see if staff and client happy ;D regards blacksheep
