When first started out I was 4 weekly but that went to monthly as round grew and wasnt able to get thru them all on time.

Now got a part time helper and seem to only a day or 2 behind so thinking about going back to 4 weekly.

Anyone else done this ... I rekon most customers dont even know when there due ?

I'm 6/12 weekly.  In prep for a week off I'm cleaning everyone after 5 weeks rather than six - not one of them has noticed or commented.

Plenty of windows that are dirty. Though the question is not whether they are dirty or not, it's a matter of how often can you repeat your service to maximise earnings. This is business. If would clean houses every week if I could get away with it. 4 weekly or sooner is best. Barely have to touch the windows with hot and they are done.

Hi Ian,
i'm monthly. In practice and as i tell my customers this may equate to 5 weekly or slightly longer if we have bad weather. Whilst this might not seem a good business move given others comments regarding keeping the round moving, 20 days work etc... in practice it means to me i can take days off my 'round' and do gutter cleans, conny cleans etc and i'm never really late. I never really judge the efficiency of me getting round my round, i just measure if (and i am)  i'm working everyday and earning. I call most of my customers before clean and the difference to me operating this way seems to be the difference between..."oh, you're coming again tomorrow" to "oh great thanks". Downside to operating the way i do is that you need more customers, and plenty of work coming in. I wouldn;t get to exited about only being a day or two behind given the recent weather we've had either. Up side is you can crack on every day, downside is (if you're charging a premium, like i do and think you do too) you're turning up to clean already clean windows, take it easy !!!

When I first started I used to take coffee in my flask.  Just recently I've been taking tea, but have now decided it might be better if I just have coffee. Has anyone gone back to coffee from tea or am I just incapable of making the simplest of unimportant decisions?   8)

Hmm. I prefer tea, but only freshly brewed. Can't stand it in a flask,it stews. Like coffee occasionally, much prefer to get a fresh Latte, or a maccy dee's one. They're expensive though, roughly £1.30 per cup and i only do £250 per day on me todd. So, percentage wise its an expense i can do without, but sometimes i throw caution to the wind and think...f*** it !!! I'm havin a coffee !!!!

will you get 13 cleans a year in though?do you not take xmas and summer holidays or time off at easter?i take around 4-6 weeks a year off.2 weeks in august,a week at xmas,a week at easter and maybe the odd week here and there through the rest of the year.

i try and keep to a tightish schedule but i keep it flexible as sometimes i get bored of window cleaning and throw my hands up and say"sod it im taking a week off from this daily grind!!!" :D :D :D :D

even if you take holidays, you can still do 13 cleans a year per customer!

good question Daz ... with my current situation of me and a part timer then no not a chance of getting thru it all but decided to grow business with staff and when my 1 van / me and lad jam packed to overflowing with work then put another van on.

Canvassed an extra 33 customers in last 2 weeks so going in right direction but if I went  back to 4 weekly that would help with my aims.

however typing this at 9.30am wont help the job along but flippin knackered from a shed load of 1st cleans yesterday  ;D

im mainly calendar monthly but occasionally get round 4 weekly.the only problem you might get is if you clean at the start of the month and turn up in the same month at the end.

Why is that a problem, it has been 4 weeks?

I think he means custys will notice more if they pay you out of the same months wages twice.I myself feel this would lead to more wanting to go 8 weekly
