do you bother with warning cones?
« on: March 24, 2012, 08:17:06 am »
i left my cone at a job the other day and went back yesterday to find it gone!!most of my work is domestic where i dont bother putting it out but i have some commercial work where i have trailing hose running along busy main road footpaths so i put one out on these jobs.

so do you bother?my hose is bright orange by the way!(gardiners thermobore)

suppose i better order a new one from pure freedom when i order some more resin.

best wishes to you all

I always use 2-3 cones to many no win no fee companys out there domestic or not people still walk round looking for a reason to claim.

I have offten wondered what would happen if some one stole your cone while you were doing the job and some one triped on the hose on purpose it happen with staged car crashes for the whiplash claims  :-[ :-[

if anyone tried to claim by tripping over my hose their lives would not be worth living!!there is no way id put 2-3 cones out for every job.its just a waste of time and effort IMO.

on commercial on a busy main road footpath is a different story.one cone yes!but not 3!! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

I put 2-3 cones out every job as well mate
It take a couple of second to do, so I don't
see it as a waste  Of time I just see it as part of the job,
Get cones out
Get reel out
Switch pump on
Pole out clean window

Every job same order for me, gives me peace of mind as well
keep it simple

I always put one cone out - as it is in front of my reel when I open the van door! that usually goes close to the van where it may cross a foot path.

The only jobs I put out more are at commercial cleans: hotels, nursing homes etc. where there are more people milling about.
It's important to keep the microbore clean too as that is bright yellow / orange/ red for a reason

A sad world, where people are looking for a hose to trip over - but as long as you can prove you've taken reasonable steps to warn people  - you're likely to be in the clear

First thing out of the van,,i`ll stop what i`m doing if i see the elderly or infirm about to cross my hose,i wouldn`t expect to see anyone trailing a hose across a public footpath without a warning sign. You guys not bothering need a rethink.I`d look upon anyone operating without a cone/sign as displaying outragously bad manners at the very least! Your fired!  ;D

I got the 3 on a deal from wcw. Put 1 out when general pubic wandering around, but put all 3 out on a couple of old folks homes i do as hose goes a long old way round the whole building and dont want to risk it.

I only use them when hose is crossing a footpath or road. If im parked on someones driveway then I dont.

I also go ott on 1 particular large commercial I do, 4 or 5 cones, hi viz vests etc.... As it was my good health & safety 'blag' that won the job. through that job, I have picked up several domestics off the staff due to the professional image

Really?  No-one's done it to me (or to the other people on this thread who say they don't use cones)

Yes, always. It only takes one clown to trip over your hose and you could be buggared.

Funny thing is the amount of people who trip over my hazzard warning cones; does anyone sell "Hazzard, Hazzard Cones" ????

Would a cone prove sufficient for someone tripping anyway? I thought you'd need a "WARNING - CAUTION - Hoses Trailing" sign to be covered.
