Hi everyone,

I've been asked to clean silk upholstery in a hotel.
Am I right in thinking that dry solvent based cleaner is the only way to go?
Also customer  wants the chairs protected as well - dry solvent based protector ?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Correct.

If heavily soiled you could use dry/wet/dry but need to have a particularly good hand tool, technique and air movers.

I've got drimaster mk1, a snail turbo dryer and whole room air mover.
I'm just a bit nervous about touching silk with water
Chairs are not heavily soiled, but some got stains on them.

Dry cleaning solvent is the only thing you can use safely. Probably with a cloth and bucket.
Use water and you may be in deep poo. Never use water on silk chairs unless you want them to become yours .

So have I but don't want to start giving too much away on here it can be dangerous, we used to clean it with just dry foam but it was never enough to get rid of staining.

Same. Its all about technique and confidence in your techniques.

Go buy some samples and have a play, at your own expense.

Silk used in a textured form = big headache.  Silk in a flat weave fabric, different ball game.

mm just a thought, you could stabilise it 1st then splash n dash the life out of it really give it dam good seeing too !!

on the scale of hardness and longevity ( fighting talk an all that ) silk in the ring would KO most synths, however silk with a bit of unstable dye matter on it is a right poofter and needs a bit help from time to time bit like good old Rocky in No 5
