The amount of people I know that are struggling is staggering.no work, skint and in debt.quite a few with drink/drug problems.me?I'm clean and sober and love getting out in the fresh air.my business is getting better year on year.no debts, money in the bank and a positive attitude.

Sometimes I do get fed up with window cleaning but guess what?I CAN TAKE A DAY OFF!!!!and do something else for a bit.

Low stress and not having to work 50 hrs a week just to pay the bills is priceless in my view.

Best wishes

I like my job; obviously, like every job, it annoys me, especially when you get screwed over by a "customer" but then you just forget them and it's all good again.

I think that we're also in a very position in that if we need to earn a few extra pounds we can go out and get the extra custom; being on a fixed wage must be a worry when all of your bills are going up and your wage is staying the same.
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

since gone WFP I like it better than my last job ( firefighter) , and its more money and good nights sleep without the bells going in , mind you I wish I had been cleaning long  before i retired cos I could have canvassed some massive houses over the years and believe me the public love the firemen and I would have been laughing all the way to the bank

I love it best job I've had!!

But I think mainly coz I'm self employed and I have freedom
I think if I worked for some one else 9-5 5 days a week
I don't think I'd have the same attitude towards a squeegee
or a pole
keep it simple

I hate the actual window cleaning part have never liked it but i like the freedom it gives me by being able to take days off or finishing early and if i work harder and longer its me that gets the money and not someone else
i think about quitting at least once a week but the reality of it is i could never work for someone now earning probably half what i do for twice the work

I love it. I have been in this game for 15 years (100% trad) and building a new business from scratch after moving to Ireland last July.

What do I like about it?
Being my own boss, flexible working hours, working outside, interacting with people, the job itself.

What don't I like about it? Bad weather, not todays, non-payers.

Overall - yup, I'm happy.

Dusty Dave,

Have you ever self medicated with alcohol due to your bad experience of window cleaning?

Can you please share your thoughts with the group.

Thanks,

Dean.

;D You see dave, Dean knows how distressing window cleaning can be. This is a safe place, where we can talk freely, slag off our wives, employees,  and customers without fear of reprisals, and generally big ourselves up with boasts of how much we (can't really) earn.  feel free to open up and let the pain out!  :)

Thoroughly enjoy my job. Always wanted to work for myself, and when I was working as a printer always thought I could do something else as I hated the printing............and the works manager...........and the night shift  etc....

When you are in a permanent job, you never seem to have the balls to leave cos its secure, until you are pushed. We had redundancies, and I volunteered, but the feckers wouldn't let me go.!! So I thought, b******s to 'em, handed in my notice (they wanted two weeks, I gave them a week, they stopped me a weeks money, I claimed it back through tribunal...lol).

Asked a local window cleaner, who had unfortunately had an accident, whether it was worth doing, and he said go for it.

Earned my first 100 quid a month...lol, but felt so good. Love working for myself, meeting the customers, having time to do things and generally being out and about. Could never work for anyone again !!!. Like being in control of what I do. Could do with more work, but happy to be where I am now and achieved self employment......... and out of that printing industry.

I also like the fact that I can never be made redundant, unless every custy drops me....lol. Must be one of the only trades where you have continual monthly work, wheras plumbers, decorators, brickies etc.... are waiting for the phone to ring for their next job.

Potential earnings and hourly rate are good. ;)

All in all I like it :)
If Carlsberg made window cleaners....I'd be one of them....lol
