There has been a great deal written over the past month about database marketing. More than I ever recall before.

But planning my own relaunch later in the year I am wondering if there are any ways of reducing postage costs etc.

I think I am correct in the assumption TNT  are only interested vast quantities not thousands.

Could a local company start up  to deliver local business mail, or do the post office have to do the last mile.

You could consider pitney bowes for a franking machine. There can be a fair bit to be saved providing you send enough mail.

We use www.cfhdocmail.com, its quick and you save on printing and labour costs, as you just upload your letter or postcard + database and they do the rest, all for the cost of normal postage.

Its a great way to save time and get professionally printed letters and cards without too much fuss, plus you can edit and change content quickly qnd regularly so no waste.

why post?    ring them tell them you've recovered from you illness but have enormous medical bills  so if they need any cleaning doing you are available. add a couple of sickly coughs as you speak and you will tug at their heart strings

We had one cost a small fortune !
Its cheaper then stamps initially but once you factor in ink etc for us it worked out far more expensive.

Depends how many you are doing, to make it cost effective you need to do several thousand at a time.

We have a franking machine from neo-post, on large mailers no one wants to stick stamps its very time consuming, so we use this, we get our ink cartridge at half the price neo-post would charge us from another supplier.

Its makes any mail out look more professional as well.

We've tried several but settled with CFHDocmail and think it's great, not as cheap as some but service great, interface and features realy good, there are some great ways to create ready to go templates and also use custom merge fields from your database.  What I like is no minimum, you can send ONE letter for the discounted rate.  If you can do it almost automatically from within your 'system' that's even better of course 

Mike's hit the nail on the head though, call people, you'll get an amazing response I'm sure.  I'd be tempted to send a mailshot and follow it up with a phone call.

Like Steve, we also use www.cfhdocmail.com now and again. The price is incredible. For an A5 double sided colour glossy card - including postage is 33p each, ok plus vat but its far cheaper than arranging printing from elsewhere and THEN arranging postage @ 32p

No brainer really. In fact we sent one last week as a trial for some of our custys and got a very nice response It was just a case of merging the type of clients we wanted to target from our system (on this occasion we did it by what type of service some of them had), then uploading this info to their website. It was easy and very effective.

Will definately be using them again.

Just ring them up Derek, and ask for a sample A5. Thats how I heard about them - they sent me a card randomly touting for business (had the prices on etc), its good though as its the same that custys get.

derek not sure wether docmail still do it but when i started to us them you got 2 quid free credit .  use this to have a practice and send jim and billy a letter lol

i am not great on computers and once i got the hang of the docmail system i find it great .   used in conjunction with cleaners mate makes cleaners mate even more valuable than it already is.

There is some uncertainty when postage prices will go up.
I was in the post office today and they said that a 1st class stamp will be going from .46 to .75p

2nd class from .36 to .55p . I said your joking! she said thats what everone says

I'll soon be sending out reminders but think I'll be getting me stamps this week. Perhaps a good idea to invest all my savings on postage stamps and cash them in when I retire

Just been in Post Office with a parcel and woman behind counter confirmed letter 2nd Class is going up to 55p and 1st Class up to 60p!

How the hell that is justified I do not know.  Wonder what that will make Docmail and the like put their prices up to?

What's coming next I guess is another hike in the Door to Door Leaflet cost too!?!?

Makes me even more motivated to collect more emails and use them for marketing.
