Window cleaning v Personal name etc on Van.
« on: March 11, 2012, 11:24:12 am »
I've seen a few wcs round here with just the words window cleaning splashed across their vans. For me personaly I much prefer to use a business name.
I understand it doesn't really matter as long as your pulling custies in etc but just wondered what everyones thoughts were on the matter!!

Most people are not interested in what you call yourself in my opinion.
You could have "The Bestest Window Cleaner In The Solar System Using Magic Water To Make Your Windows All Lovely And Shiny" plastered over your van in pretty vinyl lettering using all the colours of the rainbow and you would still get people coming up to you saying........
"I didn't know you were a window cleaner?". ;D

If your providing a good service better than the rest it's a good idea to have your company name/logo on your van and clothing so that the public can identify you from the masses of crap window cleaners.

Having a company name or logo comes into it's own when people search for your company on the internet, if you only have window cleaner on your van and a customer did a search there would be loads of result they wouldn't be able to tel which one was you.

On numerous occasions in the past when canvassing i've spoken to loads of people who had a window cleaner, or had used one in the past and time and time again most of these people could not recall the names or company names of the window cleaners.
And im not talking about doley ladder monkey window cleaners who turn up when they feel like it.
Some of the window cleaners were well established, uniformed with a small fleet of sign written vans.
We are not always as important as we might think.  ;)

Good point.

I have had people call me after they saw my van and googling my company name on the net to have a look.

If i had just window cleaner on the side they wouldn't find me on the web.

I think it's good to be different and stand out in a crowd.

I changed my company name last May, and loads of my customers have commented that they like my new business name... So I think it is noticed.

Good idea to have your business name, and window cleaning together.

Look at some of the local tradesmen's vans around you.  When you look at them, see if you can work out what they actually do.  Quite often you can't.  Squeaky has a big yellow duck on his van - bathroom cleaning services or something!

I think as long as you have Window Cleaning clearly displayed, with your telephone number, the rest is just detail.

We are not a 'creative business', we're a practical business.  When I have a plumber, I want someone whose sane, sensible and knows what he's doing.  I guess when people are after a window cleaner, they want similar; but cheaper.  ;D

Yep thats how I look at it.
There are some great sign written and vinyl wrapped window cleaning vans that I have seen driving around but most of the time the message on them is not clear to Joe Public.
Most people don't glance at your van for more than a few seconds, especially when you are driving along.
Try it for yourself.......I bet in a lot of cases when driving along or sat in traffic you don't give more than 2-3 seconds attention to other tradesmans vans.
The message should be short and clear.
In a lot of cases people recognise you from the association of seeing you in the area on a regular basis.
The words "Window Cleaning" or "Window Cleaner" and contact telephone numbers should be given prominence in my opinion.
