Hey i was really close but they wanted 55% off of £29 for two rooms and a hall before tax. I was thinking it may give me exposure but think about it custys aint goni say ohh tams carpet cleaning heres his card to their pals they will just say wait for a groupon offer. They also dont let you use your own price if someone else in your area has done it they will want you to beat or match their price. And no i cant see you making a good rate of upsales on stain protection or other discounted services. If i got something from groupon id be like no ive already paid and that is all i want. You could also lose good paying custys as they will struggle to understand why you can charge £29 for the same job you would or have normally charged them upwards of £100 for?????

I have done Groupon , not like the other posters , imagined what it is like ,  and 2 weeks ago KGB deals .

There are a few tings that I  recommend to make it profitable .

negotiate your % of the deal ,they will move on the 55%,  a lot .

It is only worth it if you are not busy at all doing anything else.

I excluded stairs ,and charge £2 a step , most people had stairs cleaned too.

Get organized with cards , ask for referrals give 3 or 4 cards on each job , tell them their friends can have the same deal -direct.

While the offer was running I had over 50 calls with people asking this or that question , I booked most in for the full amount,   my deal was 3 carpets up to 36m2 for £34 , so when I booked on the phone I got the full £34 , plus 26 for the stairs which in most cases meant cleaning , a through lounge, hall and stairs for £60 , with no ad costs , and I insisted all furniture was moved.

I sold 98 deals via  Groupon and 77  actually booked , each deal paid me £21.38 before I actually did the work ( always get the voucher code when they book, and redeem via web site)  I found people more willing to be flexible on time when they had got it so cheap. so I cleaned the vast majority without much travel costs.

The people who redeemed were largely in the nicer end of town , only 2 or 3 roughneck people/houses, which really surprised me.  About  10 were really nice properties  , which amazed me.  Several customers  knew each other , " O you are going to my friends house next week , ill tell her you did a good job "  I have always found these mini fan clubs to be the best loyal customers long term .

When I explained to people that it was a genuine offer , and it was to provide a sample , and build a database they almost always said  it was great , because they did not like to book any old cleaner for a high price who may be rubbish.

Each job took about an hour , as furniture was not present ( obvioosly there were one or 2 cheeky ones) never  di a job take more than 90 minutes . I cleaned them all to the same standard as normal priced customers too, no scrimping or cutting corners.

I  am still getting referrals from  groupon  customers , and one or 2 repeats on different items.

My recommendation ,,,,, if you are quiet , sat about , go for it  I made a profit , paid my mortgage for a few months did not set the world on fire . If busy steer clear.

However Groupon did almost kill me and my business.

Sounds like Jasons nailed it.

YOU set the deal and terms not groupon or the customer.

Still I cant see them wanting to pay three times the amount next year.

Seems to have died a death too. Very few local deals for anything and I get emails everyday.  A lot more national deals and products instead of services.

The thing is , the smart ass posters do not realise that with the earnings from groupon , I have also been able to pay the fees which will in the next few weeks release the funds to enable my building work to start on a project which will net me 180k +  this year .  I am not about making a wage out of cc , I am looking to build a portfolio of assets for the long term , so I have no need to clean carpets past age 50 if I choose not to.

Fin to those that do , Groupon was a means to an end . It wont make you rich in isolation , it may earn a minimum wage , if you are sat round the house , why not?

There are several others , social buying is going to get big . I did one with KGB deals a couple of weeks ago .

only sold 33 though , they pay for all deals whether the customer redeems or not . so if it is a similar ratio to Groupon , I wont go to 10 of the jobs .

Put is this way , who on here who is quiet would not clean 20 x 1 hour jobs for £30 each ? Plus an extra 26 for stairs in at least  half of them, at no upfront cost?

reason i like the idea is that 1 im very quiet and 2 I dont have much money to throw at advertising

give you cashflow and keeps you busy through these difficult time... we are in a climate that everyone wants a bargain thats why groupon livingsocial etc are doing so well

sorry to bring up but is why enterprise are doing so well with the bait and switch
