Gutter Vac anyone got one?
« on: March 06, 2012, 07:04:28 pm »
I'm thinking of buying one because I no longer fancy climbing ladders to do the work.
So my question is to those that have them How long did it take you to get your money back plus do you get enough work to carry it on your van 24/7?

My last one came from www.guttercleaningsystems.co.uk, and i must say it has been great and the on going service from them has been superb! I have the Karcher commercial one, and it has more than paid for itself. I don't carry it around in the van everyday, it only goes on as and when i have booked the job in.

Mmm they look good and quite cheap too. One of my concerns though is if there is no one at the property where does the power come from?

If its domestic, and the customer doesn't have an outside electric point, i get them to leave an extension hanging out of a window wrapped in a plastic bag. I have a gennie, but its a pain in the rear to put it on the van. Really only use it for commercial.

I bought the Karcher one too, paid for itself in one winter - I bought a 2.4 kw generator afterwards too. It's more professional to have you're own power supply.

Ideal for domestics - I wouldn't want to use it above three floors as the tubes weigh a bit.  The mirror system takes a little getting used to  - but works OK

Will probably add a camera and monitor in the future, as I like the idea of recording a before and after to show the customer.

We bought one in October last year and im well impressed!!!!!

We also did a flyer drop just for gutter cleaning and made our money back for the Vac, the leaflets (designed and printed) and distribution in about 6 weeks!!!!!!

This year have seen us price some silly priced jobs for the time needed to complete, like £150 for a gutter clean which took just over 2 hours, and £35 for a job which took 10 mins

I would say its a well worth while investment and worth every penny.

We wouldnt go back to using manual methods! Get it you wont regret it.

The only prob is making sure you can get power so people need to be in or you need to know if they have external power points.
We're gonna get a Genny this year that way we can do them without needing customers to be in.

No, it's quite rare that you get a blocked downpipe. But the ones that i have had that are blocked, have been solid. The last one i did, the downpipe was cemented into the ground, had to cut the downpipe, release the muck, and add a joiner. Never do a gutter clear without looking, so price accordingly. For any solid muck that accumulates in the run outlet, i spike it, then suck it out.

We charge £40 for a standard semi or  small detached. Bit harder to work our bigger houses with loads of guttering but we just base it on the £40 for a semi rule. Never priced a job and not got it.
If you have lower guttering or 3 sides of higher gutter obv charge more.

We always try and sell on the fascia and soffits clean as well bumps the price up nicely :-)

Good point. The more work you can get on one house the better!!

have the omni pole gutter vac 110v with geni

also have the patio cleaning things,

one house we can clean everything outside.

Gutter vac is a bit of a beast when working at 3/4 floors on commercial stuff although is a good earner.

can take longer sometime on domestics than it would of taken on ladders but the fact that its safer is one of the best bit, getting hard to reach guters is a plus point as a lot of other people can't get them.
