Do I need RO?
« on: March 04, 2012, 05:15:43 pm »
Yorkshire Water website give my local supply as:
Water hardness type: Soft
Water hardness average: 14.95mg/l  - I think that converts to about 15 PPM.
Could I get away with something like this?

make your first purchase a tds meter then check your tap water and go from there.  ;)
WE CLEAN BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT WITH WATER FED POLE WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT.

First thing I would do is buy a TDS meter and check what TDS readings you have at your tap. Its only once you have that reading that you know what you will need equipment wise to order.
If you are going WFP, you will always need a TDS meter, so that must be your first order. You also need to get a genuine one from a well recognised supplier rather than a cheapie on Ebay that maybe of questionable origin.

Got a reading my water quality is 87 TDS.
Here's the reply I got from Andrew at Total Freedom:

You may be able to use the DI only system and not the RO.
A TDS reading of 87 will cost you around £7.50 in resin use per 650lts of pure water so around £1.00 per hour working.
With this DI only system you will be able to fill the van at full water pressure so it should not take too long to fill and be ready for work, you can also fill whilst you are out and about.
With the RO & DI system you will have waste water and it may take several hours to fill.

If you are not on a water meter, then you could get an ro, then you would not need much resin as it would bring the tds down to under 10. But the tds is also low enough to use just di, if you get 2 di vessels and have water going from one into the other you will reduce the amount of resin you need, also it only requires tap pressure.
