alternative to soften hard water

just wondered if you could use a di vessel with used resin to soften water , im new so if this is stupid sorry

No, used resin won't soften the water, but you can use a resin vessel filled with softening resin. You will also need a 10" filter housing with a canister than you can fill with softening salt for flush/rejuvenate the softening resin, but it needs doing every few days.

Look on pure freedoms website and you will see this set up on there

you dont us one lee. do you think they aren't worth the hassel even in hard water area

It seems to much of a faf to me, they need flushing to frequently, and the softening bottle has to be disconnected form the rest of the system when this is done because the salt will kill the ro. Mine has been running 18 months without a softener and I havnt seen any adverse effect on the ro or the output tds

If you live in a hard water area it is recommended, as it will prolong the life of your RO filter.

But like Lee, I haven't used one for nearly 2 yrs now and no adverse effects on RO or output TDS

Never use a water softner in 6years of been wfp and the water is 315 to 345ppm's befoer it goes through the ro and it comes out at 0.00ppm  ;D ;D :) :)
