« on: March 03, 2012, 06:00:07 pm »

Thinking about the future years ahead and sorting some thing out as diesel prices are going through the roof what alternatives do we have for cheaper filling up & running costs

Used to think about the price of diesel but compared to other types of business its really the only overhead I have so dont really care about it.

My fuel bill is £140 a month but cant wait until its £500 as means more windows being cleaned  ;D

Bio diesel is the way forward, have been doing loads of research. Can buy it for less than a quid a litre ready made or set your own making facility up. Its another thing to mess around with but the savings are significant....

The big decision is whether its worth the messing around....

Im thinking that an eletric van could be good if you only work local and would be good for your image, you could get some good coverage in the papers  ;) ;)

It could well be an idea Paul if you've done the sums and you are fairly sure on your income and distances you travel.  You might even qualify for all sorts of government help.

I've run all my car's on LPG for about 6 years now and can't grumble.  My 3.0 Jag is full on £42 and I squeeze 230 miles out of it round town.

Electric would certainly be a good plan if you're thinking about going for some PV on your home as long as you have the room to store the power at home and charge the van over night.

its a bill im not bothered about 60 quid fills up when its out fill up again remember most people who run a business pay for example rent etc for an office or shop could be over 15k for those guys then they need to get to work too and if they are driving thats fuel costs on top.

i think we are ok on this expensis and can absorb it easy

You should be bothered.
Everything in the shops is delivered by diesel, so prices rise. The punters, our punters are paying more for what they buy in the shops and are paying more to drive to them. It also give people the option to moan had bad things are.
It's not good at all imo

i know but when it hits 2 quid 2.50 and if wages stay the same that will mean less people driving which means i can get to work faster lol
even with our current prices i dont see 2 quid being an issiue its not fun but i still think we will be ok and i think the house owner will still hire us , well i hope we just gota be positive

Its not worth it if it means recyling used oil because the supply is limited and loads of people jumping on the band wagon.

just pay for fuel, we are minnows in this situation. How would you feel if you were trying to run a fleet of artics at 7mpg? Doing runs of hundreds of miles a day?
