Leather Suite smells of dog
« on: February 28, 2012, 09:50:54 pm »
Had a customer on the phone who bought a 2nd hand suite, but got it home and it smells badly of wet dog. He has tried the usual cleaning techniquies, fairy, etc to no avail. I take it the smell is from the lining. I was going to swerve it but I said I would look into it. Is it a right off.

I would try Odour Stop - has been developed to kill odours and is safe to use on fabrics and leather so can be used on all areas if the suite - get to as many areas as possible - it's a totally natural product so is safe to use too.
Hope this helps

Might need de-greasing first if it's had an oily-coated dog on it?

Do you not do em-clean any more Judy?  That has fixed a few odour problems for me.

Sometimes how leather suites or other leather apparel smells can tip you off that it is cheap. If it has a sharp, oily smell, or a dead animal smell, that’s a sign that the hide was not treated right. Cheap jackets and leather item gets processed half-ass, and often has not been fully tanned. What that means is the inside of the leather is slowly rotting. :-X

Hi Jim
Yes we still ave Em Clean which we use mainly for mould but also works on odours but Odour Stop is a new product which has been formulated to deal specifically with odours on leather and all fabrics and carpets. You can choose which to use.
The other alternative is an ozone room if you have one near you - the problem with this is the expense which usually cannot be justified on a second hand suite.
