i cant put my finger on it iv got a phobia of chasing money for fear of getting complaints or customers saying weve paid the lads i think my confidence is just low at minute, i think if i could employ a part timer office girl who is organised and professional and keeps things in check it would free up a lot of my time to focus where i want to take the business etc get out there meeting new clients, im a messy worker when it comes to office work im constantly organising the mess iv made!!!

richy, i;m the same!  i have the same fear of people complaining or something else...  strange isnt it.  once i get started i;m fine, and on a roll...  i was chasing them up today in fact, but i know what you mean.

the thing is, its much easier to get a good admin girl, who'll keep on top of this stuff, than it is to get a good sales person.  i'm thinking of getting one whilst my office managers on mat leave, so that i can stay focussed on sales and marketing, and grow my business, rather than get myself bogged down in doing admin, badly  :D

debt list is fine mate just previously over last six months people were saying they have paid the cleaners, the lad doing admin seems to have been making mistakes when inputting information, im back to window cleaner pro now and its nice and simple, im owed in about 1300quid at present.

im gona hammer it tmoz and start complaining to customers about how long they take to pay

£1300  :o :o :o thats alot of money fella 1/6 of your customers owe you money  ??? ???

Chase the money yourself why employ some one to do it if they don't have any luck the dept will get bigger plus you have already said money is tight.

Paying someone new to chase in debts doesn't really make sense.....money wasted IMO.
Get it sorted and right yourself, then you are on top of it, then if you want to employ someone to keep on top of it, so be it.
Don't expect a new person to come in and sort our your previous mess and set up procedures to make sure it stays that way, you will have no idea of what is going on at all :)

hiya mate is was going back a few years i was living at my parents and was looking to expand etc my dad didnt want vans all outside his house and staff coming and going and refilling etc so i took on a small unit few miles away, come winter time the water was freezing in the unit as it was a timer frame with aluminium cladding so had to move nearer home to unit we had the break ins at, before the break in we was planning on setting up a cleaning supplies shop and unit next to us came up really cheap 200quid so signed up on a lease, then had the two break in none of us wanted to stay there my matemention about this unit his cousin had who had gone to jail it was perfect for the shop we was planning to open had shop front, trade counter lighting large shop floor, sectioned off so one side cud be used for window cleaning, nice and secure gated and camera up,rollers shutters for all doors it felt like a safe option but was 600 a month i felt it was right option as at old unit i was looking to spend 10,000 to get shop set up anyway, unfortunately ive had to shelve them plans for now but still paying the price for unit as signed into a long lease,

im at a crossroads now to decide where to go, im thinking safe option is keep under the vat with the window cleaning and allow one staff member to keep it going for the next year and i help out if we get behind which i dont think we will.

im considering seting up a hand car wash at the unit as we are on a busy industrial estate

set up the cleaning supplies shop which isnt the biggest earner

do something else with the space

its a shame coz i cant really build the window cleaning up that much more i think i should be bk up to vat threshold early summer

this is reason im thinkin of getting an admin assistant in or giving the staff member more responsibilty to do paperwork as im at a loose end most of the day

£10k to set up a window cleaning supplies shop  ???

Surely you hadn't included stock within that figure?

no that was just for the lighting, shop fitting, shop front and trade counters, tills thats why the new unit was attractive and couldve speeded up the process of getting shop up and running.

put it on the back burner now tho

O right Richy yes can see where your comming from !!! wud be a good idea to do a car wash valet service to get abit of money in Rich to cover some costs. If your worried of going up to the vat then split the company start one with cleaning & the other half with window cleaning I find vat reg for me works as I claim back vat on fuel materials also I claim back the vat on the van I lease so is ok and I only pay vat on the invoices that the clients pay as Im on cash accounting which is better because if a client owes money and dont pay & closes down I just write the invoice off so therefore dont have to pay the vat on it that might be good for you if you go vat registered .........................[cash accounting]the only thing you gotta do is make sure you put the vat away. The bad thing for ya is that you would have to invoice each client with an invoice as you will have invoice numbers and if you do alot of houses that will be a knightmare and dont think the customers will be happy to pay vat on there house being cleaned good luck with the unit cant you just pull out of it !!!!!!!  if not hope its not to long for ya before the contract runs out on it if not try and rent it out !!!!!!

I`d up the guys wages that does all the cleaning by the amount you were thinking of paying this admin girl, you might just keep him then.
You are either inherently lazy,in which case you will never get a business off the ground or enjoying some form of drug use,(legal or illegal)too much, which leaves you permanently confused.
