Hey all I'm very new to this game,

Ive have been reading a lot of things on this forum however one thing I can never work out is what do u window cleaners do when it rains?

do u still go out? if not what do u do in the mean time to make ur money?

If the postman still works and the milk still gets through then you can still clean. If you clean windows at 1000am and it rains at 1100am, whats the difference then in just working through. Get some good waterproofs and tell your customers when you get them that you still work in the rain.

I explain if we only cleaned windows when it was dry and sunny, and going to be the same all week, we would have to charge 4 times the price.  So in order to stay in business and keep prices reasonable we need to be able to do our job.

That being said.....if its raining steady or hard we dont bother going out, unless its showers.

Thats why you got to "make hay while the sun shines"    Plan to be able to earn enough in 4 days a week, got  a bonus day in lee way then.

ive done window cleaning for 11 years now and i never go out when it rains .
never have never will, if im doing a job and it starts raining i will stop till the rain stops.

as for what to do if its all day rain , just put your feet up OR you could go out posting flyers and remember to put your address ond and land line home number, some folks dont like  a mobile number .

If you measure some rain water you will see that it is around 3ppm , therefore if you are WFP then that rain water wont dirty your windows unless there is solution still left on them from past trad work. Cant see how you can not clean in drizzle when you walk away from a cleaned window that is covered in water!! . When I was trad any rain used to p1ss me off and I would pack in but not now on WFP

John if your trad you can't really especially scrimming leaded windows.

If your wfp then yes in light rain.

Basically you need to build a round up that pays well over 4 days that way you have 2 days extra (work saturday if needed ) to catch up with work and earnings.

You will never get mon to fri dry very often; i think i average one in 5 weeks a full monday to friday.

If your wfp and can convince every custy wet weather has no effects then good for you  i'm in essex and just except the rain will mess me up now and then.

If i lived in an area that it rained all the time i would have to work in the rain.
But to be honest i probably wouldn't be window cleaning then.

like been said wfp is ok to clean in rain but i wouldnt if it was heavy rain,im trad and its pretty much impossible if its side ways even if your quick as detailing the edges is a nightmare and just pi sses me off so i either stop until its stops or go home if its looks like its going rain few a few hour

True 4 days is good idea if possible money wise

Also you could have some "wet weather "work

Shops , commercial etc that you can jump on when its bad

Personally id carry on and skip anyone who moans , maybe look for the ones who are out and clean and leave your "window cleaner called today " card - simples
Its not a good idea to setup thinking you wont ever clean in the rain , it will get frustrating , you will end up never leaving the house worrying about forecast - clouds etc and if your rounds are far away your wasting fuel to'ing and fro'ing

another way round a rainy day is to just do your custies that you know wont be in, never had one not pay me co`s windows were` nt good enough.

Speak to your customers and offer a rain guarantee, if they not happy say you will go back and do them again. I know a lot of guys that do this and it works...

the rain doesn't mess up trad or wfp work, I have a letter upstairs on a job I did years ago trad in sideways gales trad, it says thank you very much I have never seen the windows so shiny, please find payment enclosed etc, and it was bucketing down that day with proper sideways rain, in fact it was that heavy it was wetting me as it hit the deck and soaked me on the back up

most of my customers are used to me cleaning in all weathers(i dont work in very heavy rain or gale force winds though!)

light/medium showers is acceptable.there is the odd customer who skips a clean but i still end up with a days earnings,or thereabouts so no problems.

when you have a full round you simply have to be prepared to work in the rain occasionally or else your earnings will be down and you ll fall further behind with your work.

WFP is so much better than trad and ladders when the bad weather comes!!

As window cleaning is my only source of income; I need to work in all weathers to maintain regularity of service and to earn my living. There may be times when I have to clean your windows while it is raining. It is a condition of service that the customer will accept this as necessary and will not refuse service because it is raining.

I do not work in very heavy rain.

We don't get as much rain as we used to these days maybe half a day here and there. I will work in drizzle but not heavy rain. So far this year I've worked every day even though I did start a little later when it was freezing a few weeks ago.
