I use pencils and fans and i can't tell the difference in terms of water use.

Jonny I have used both and there is no difference in water used that I noticed anyway, by the way your set up is just fine as it is,

I was just wondering because I have pencils on 1 brush and fans on the other and i haven't noticed a difference but some people say that fans save water and i just wanted to know.

The problem i found with fan jets is they were not rinsing the window properly and the spray would go up the window vents and bring down dirty water onto the window

i have fans in one of my brushes, but you have to turn the water up to get a decent arc so i dont see how people say they save water?

When using fans I only start the water when the brush is touching the frame or glass. By doing this the spray is contained.
Also tilting the angle of the brush head slightly downwards can help.

I don't take the brush of the glass anyway. so fans spraying makes no odds and I run either pencil or fans at full pelt anyway

I only use a brushhead with fan jets on it for windows where the water beads up, if that's the right word, as it rinses the glass better.

i found the jets were good while the brush was on the glass but when rinsing they were poor. pencil jets are better.as
for water use it must b the same i would have thought . the pump is working at the same pressure . but what do i know. ive not been going long

I use fans on all my brushes and i use one third less water with them , with fans it is knowing how best to use them , with sheeting glass once the window is scrubbed i stay on the glass for a couple of left to right passes at the top , lift off and go to next window ,
With beading glass its the same as above , but after lifting off i chase the water left to right down the pane .
