Got an electrical issue with the trucky. When the engine is running the starter motor keeps turning. When the wire in harness plug (1) is removed it stops the starter from turning and engin seems to run ok. The wire in question has a diode inline and the diode seems to be ok, so does anyone know what the problem could be?

He means starter solenoid. This pushes the cog up to the flywheel when the starter is operated as soon as you release the key the solenoid should retract. It obviously isn't so may be dodgy solenoid or it may be the teeth are badly chewed so it is being trapped in place rather than retracting. May also be a wiring fault. Regardless it should'nt be that expensive to sort out. I would start by spraying some wd40 into the solenoid starter area. There should be an opening near here to do this.

The Harness, is a relay, correct?  This will be faulty, it's not stopping the current after starting - like it should.

Oh when I say relay that is the same thing as solenoid.

Or maybe not, I was thinking of an inline relay, not like in Johns pic, could be either or.

The diode is brand new so should be ok. It is fitted correctly and i know it works as has been tested on other machine

So when the ignition is turned to start the engine the cog goes up to the flywheel then when the ignition goes back to (S) position the cog should drop thus the engine is running but not the cog? I also am guessing that the (s) position is a momentary live, so if permanently live it could be a dodgy ignition? I am also thinking... if the cog was getting stuck on the flywheel it would still be on the flywheel even with the wire removed?

Yep you are right. If as you say when you disconnect the wire it works normally then it is obviously electrical. May be dodgy contact in starter switch. I would have an auto electrician sort it. You could fanny on for ages trying to find it yourself.

I suppose you could take the plug caps off then turn the engine over and see if the starter continues to drive the engine after you release the key. As the engine cannot start it should be pretty clear whether the starter motor circuit is still made.
