Posted this in General cleaning for a day and got no replies, thought
I might have a better response on here.

We have a contract at our local doctors surgery, they have asked us to launder their
machine washable curtains twice a year.
It will basically mean taking down, re hang spare curtains, take to our workshop 1/2 mile away and launder and take back to site

It works out we will be cleaning 2 pairs fortnightly, each curtain is 2 1/2 widths and about
a 6 ' drop.

Just wondering on price, i may call local launderette and enquire for a clean price.
what would you charge ?

I'm sure it's about £6 a sq metre at the dry cleaners...

6 ft drop x 2.5 width (10ft) = 60 sqft x 4 curtains (2prs) = 240 sq feet x 40p

Cost to clean £96.00

Extra to take down and re hang.

I'd charge that for dry and wet because of the service they want, are they lined ? if they are then dry cleaning is more of an option also do they need flame retarding as they should be if they are in a commercial premises.

I asked about flame retarding and they have a risk assesment for it,
and is classed as a low risk, something to do with the amount of
escape exits.

I dont think they are lined.

If they NEED to be flame retarded it would need re-applying after dry cleaning wouldn't it Shaun, as the chemical removes it?

I think water based cleaning doesn't.

Don't bet on it. I have a friend with a carpet shop and it's been vandalised at least once and broken into too, and where is it......... right next to a police station

Yep dry cleaning will remove it, water clean will eventually remove it not sure how many cleans though.

I think water based cleaning doesn't.

there are two types of fire retardent.  A water based one and a solvent based one.

depending on which is used where they would both come off.  For example dry cleaning would remove the solvent based retardent and wet cleaning the water based one.

£6 per m2 sounds bang on the money and its what we charge but make sure you follow the instructions and allow for 3-5% shrinkage.  So make the customer aware of this beforehand especially if there isnt a proper care label on the curtains.
