A to the point answer is what the fellow wants. Don`t be put off. This is just a nothing dose of the nanny state advice again. Don`t work its risky things go wrong.

I got talking to some guys fitting solar pannels a week or so ago about cleaning them.

They told me they are sold as self cleaning (like self cleaning windows) but told me they would need cleaning every few years really.

The boss said that wfp would be ideal for cleaning and that as they are outdoors then they are completley waterproof. He did make a point of saying that damage could cost thousands so told me to make sure i had cover for solar pannels in particular.

I'm not trying to put him off, just pointing out that it's not easy work and you need to charge accordingly.  Insurance is a must in my book, wouldn't touch one without having any.

Cleaning them from ground level is not easy either, ladders and safety bolts is often the best way to go mate.  We use the same safety setup as the Sky engineers and normally only do panels as a two man job.

You'll find the angles you need to work from at ground level are hard to achieve so going in with the ladder is something you need to think about.

Think of it this way .... If you have quite a few solar cleans & you price them well - then you can justify the increase in insurance.
To me .. It's a no brainier when it comes to insurance, these things are v.costly

i;ve added them to my insurance at no extra cost.  they said they were already covered under the damage to the outside of the property.  they have added them to the policy wording tho now

I was told that to. In fact the guy said to me, they will be knacked before they need cleaning.
