iwas doing a house last friday custy came to door asked if a wanted a drink i said ok and told her to be carefull when she comes out its slippy any way dint get a chance to grit befor she comes out next thing shes slips lucky she was ok, coffee every ware this as realy put me off going out in freezing temps its only a matter of time before some on is seriousley injured so im stoping working on icey days it aint worth injuring some one or your self for a few quid or even a law suit this incident has realy freeked me out ,,,,,,,were theirs a blame theirs a claim .

sod being scared to work in case someone slips on water you ve left behind!!

use some common sense.trad doors and some ground floor windows.dont clean frames on upper windows if they look clean,turn your water down a tad.its amazing how fast and with little water you can use on maintenance cleans.

take a broom with you and quickly sweep any water on paths away and put some salt/grit down.

you dont have to leave any water lying around if you do what ive suggested.

also if the window above a front door is pretty clean then miss it out and tell the customer why you have missed it.say youll clean that one twice for her next time!!!

I have always thought if you could mix it yourself, some sand and cheap table salt, I'm probarly completely off the mark though.

The council leave me a huge tub of it just at the bottom of my street.  It's very kind of them, don't you think?

I find you don't need to use much, and you just put it down on the areas where it's needed.

I do not use grit. For a very good reason, the absolute mess it leaves behind afterwards. I've been using Sainsbury's basic 1KG salt bags. Works all right for me.

Like Nat said, salt before cleaning the windows. You will be too late after you finish the job.

Today it was around 1c here, so I didn't salt before doing the windows, but did put some salt down afterwards. Taking my broom out tomorrow to sweep some excess water away first.

I suspect a lot of people aren't taking it seriously because they prefer to keep their heads under the blankets.

The one I love is "we use hot, so it isn't a problem" - not seen it on this thread (yet).
