Help please grout colouring
« on: February 07, 2012, 07:56:43 pm »
Hi, I am looking to add hard floor cleaning as an add on to my carpet cleaning. I have advertised on my website to see what the response was before looking at training and equipment. had low level of enquiries but want to persue. I have cleaned a few kitchen floors with my rotary they have all been ceramic and came up well after degreasing.

I looked at a job tonight which again is a charcoal covered ceramic tile. The grout is a light grey colour in the bathroom, in the toilet the grout lines are dark but in patches are light grey. The dark colour came off when scrathed with my fingure nail. The customer likes the dark colour and has asked me if I can clean the tiles and colour the grout. Any advise please

Hello Peter
We represent Grout Perfect in the UK and also trade as Clean Tile and Grout Ltd - although we do carry out just cleaning our preferred work is cleaning and colour sealing mainly commercial but we do some residential - they both have their pros and cons.

In about 2 weeks coinciding with a new website we are going to start a 1 day colour sealing course - we have just finished our training school in Hampshire.

The job you describe sounds just right for colour sealing - as long as the grout lines are below the tiles it should be fairly straight forward - the great thing about colour sealing is that the set up costs are really low and the income potentially high. The down side is that very few people have heard of the service so selling it can be pretty hard - if you already have a good client base then you have a great start.

Please give me a ring in the morning and i will see if i can help -01256 882840

Clean it and flood the grout with an Enhancing Sealer such as LTP Colour Intensifier or Aqua Mix Enrich N Seal

This happens when the tiler grouting the floor adds to much water to floor when cleaning the grout off...Grey is a real mare for this happening as it brings the lighter pigments in the grout to the surface. Just if you are looking at floors to clean make sure this has not happened before you clean the floor and get the blame. Thats why you should do a test clean. As Kev said apply a Colour enhancer.
