I had posted on another thread about van insurance, got my renewal quote from Autonet,£545.Thought that wis no bad but made a few calls anyway......Am I glad I did!..I know there are a lot of variables that determines premiums.
2010 Ford Transit 280,115bhp insured for 12k
650lt Pure Freedom hot diesel system         6k
Comprehensive
9 years ncd protected
£350 excess
Kept in driveway
Wife named driver(brings premium down)
Didn't bother with courtesy van but available for an extra £35

Aviva....£398 ;) cuts out the middle man.

Aviva declined to offer me insurance when I phoned for a quote and told them about water tank.  ???
Strange but true.

i have also had aviva refusing me for water tank , i think it is due to some brokers not fully understanding and conveying to the insurance company underwriters about the tank. I actually was called by my broker at the time , Gladiator 3 weeks after the policy started to tell me that they couldnt insure me and the policy was cancelled. After this i was told by other brokers that the best quote was from Aviva and I HAD TO TELL THEM that Aviva would cover the water tank. ALTHOUGH if you have got away with it and on the call you have clearly stated that you have a tank then if there is a problem the broker will have to cover any payout due to their negligence.

Another one, I think it was Swiftcover asked me if I collect money during my working day.
So I said "yes some customers pay me in cash".
They too refused me cover saying they could not insure me.  ???
Absolutely bizarre.
ps. I've got 9 years + no claims, over 30 years old and 0 points on my license.

If Aviva are refusing to insure you ,you could try Autonet, when I phoned to tell them I wouldn't be going with them this year they asked if I had a cheaper quote elsewhere,I told them about my quote from Aviva then they somehow managed to go from wanting £540 underwritten by RSA to saying they could get me Insurance underwritten by a different company for £396 ???I decided against going with them as I thought their job as a broker was to search out all these underwriters and come up with the best/cheapest one....it would seem not >:(

This was last month, I managed to get insured. In fact most of the companies I phoned didn't have a problem with the water tank in the van.
I've absolutely no problem if an insurance company don't want to insure me,there are plenty who will.
I just found it strange that Aviva insure others with a water tank but refused me and the company who wouldn't insure me due to collecting money is something I still can't understand.  ???

If you want weirdness, when I started gutter vacuuming I called my broker to check I was covered for a generator in the van.  The broker called the insurer who said they were stopping my cover for asking the question.  The broker was gobsmacked, said he'd never heard anything like it and persuaded the insurer to keep my cover going for a week while the broker arranged a different insurer.

They are a law unto themselves.

i was with autonet, got renewal though today, in small print : we do not cover you for carrying a water tank!

i told them last year i did, and they said no problem as its not modification.  seeing as so many jumping on band wagon with wfp that they are tightening up.

Might give these guys a ring,

i have vw caddy 2005 1.9tdi
age 33 with wife 32
no accidents or claims.....
2 years no claims
15k miles per year
with modification 17 inch alloys and chrome LED bars.

Thought better declare modifications this year......well those 2 anyway  :-X

Their quote was just short of £500... but havent been able to get hold of them to see how much extra for carrying water tank.  Might try the above contacts, cheers!

will be trying a-plan on wednesday, autonet have now come back to me, and including any modification i want on van, for £566.

Lots of main stream insurers wont insure my van anyway as it has couple of modifications, side bars, alloys, sign writing, etc.

I can have the tank bolted, or strapped, its insured either way with autonet.......

Can see it getting harder and harder to get insurance........
