removing high level paint
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:49:14 am »
Hello everyone,

My first post here, so please be gentle, I have been reading these forums for some time.

I have a WFP Cold system and I am a new start up in Norfolk 3 months, I only moved to Norfolk 3 months ago from South East London

I am sitting here hoping the temperature warms up enough so I can do an 11am appointment I have, as my pipes froze last night

I have an issue I need some advice on, I recently won a monthly contract to clean windows on a new build Gym in London, there are some paint splashes on the glass about 40ft up, the customer would like me to try and remove if possible.

I have an agreement with him that I can invoice him for additional time spent removing bird fouling etc from other parts of the building so I am happy to do this.

Are there scrapers you can buy that can be used on the water fed poles? I have a 57 foot brodex pole, I would prefer something that would fit properly rather than just taped on as the marks are quite high and I don't fancy my luck in dodging a spining blade coming down on me :)

Thanks for any help you can give
In March 2012 I am undertaking a massive challenge to swim 6.4km, cycle 337km and run 83km over 7 days from London to Birmingham to raise money for the charity Diabetes UK

Omnipole do a scraper that fits on the end of their Power pole, don't know if it would fit on a Brodex though.
Tecbuk and Gardiners do brushes that you can attach a scraper too.

hi tony i think the best way is a ladder and scraper.i have used a scraper on the end of a traditional pole before now but that was 25ft up not 40ft!!

i use a scraper attachment on my wfp but i would say it would be useless on paint esp 40ft up.its just for stubborn bird muck really.

you need to get up close to the glass to do an effective job of scraping paint off a window IMO.wet the window then use a 4in unger scraper.

try a reach around from gardiners and add a scraper see if that works.the scrapers that fit on the brush would not be up to the job at 40ft IMO.
price higher/work harder!

Just to add to what Dazmond has said, I think you would have to be very careful about using a metal blade scraper on a pole that high you are increasing your chances of scratching the glass big time. and a plastic scraper simply wont do it...Ladders for this one I think.
WE CLEAN BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT WITH WATER FED POLE WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT.
