I'm not a parent but if your child wants to do it, then they are off to a good start.  Most people only do their job because they have no other choice.

If he/she wants to get into working for themselves early on in life, they can always change tack later and have lots of experience under their belt when it comes to running a business.

I'd encourage them.

Yes but only if I was expanding my business with a view that one day my son would take it over and carry on expanding-graham

My dad passed last year and left me his window cleaning round. He left me with a round he has been doing for over 20 years and some customers he had known all his life.I am so very proud to say he was my father and it has humbled me/helped me grow as a person so much having to deal with the customers and tell them the bad news, all the compliments from the customers not 1 has a bad word.  I told him I would continue the business and try and expand it, however I also said I didn't plan on doing it for the rest of my life and would be doing accountants courses in a few years and have a nice relaxing job! He sat me down and told me the positives as you are the boss, you control everything and your not earning someone else toP doller And being paid pittence! The negatives however no sick pay, bad weather means no money and Although I'm a very practical person, laborious work takes it out of you, he worked for 50 years all manual jobs and died age 62. I was gifted a near photographic memory with the ability to do any mathematical sum in my head down to multiple decimal places.
Sorry for rant lol answer to the question is no he wouldn't want me doing this forever, "use your brain kid you've got a gud en" he used to say :)

Both my boys work for me

one 22yo  is on £21k plus free use of vehicle, will soon be on more, he chose to move to Bristol, so had to build work around him.

other is 19 yo and is on the same.

Both, by time they are my age will be a lot better off than me

Jim

If your mathematical mind is that good, i am sure you can appreciate that with the start your father gave you, it could be expanded many fold.

He threw the first stone in the pond for you, now you have to make the ripples cross the pond

21k is very good at 22! I'm 20 and mine will only be around 8k as have to split with another guy, he lost a lot of work when was I'll an receiving treatments as we didn't go.
That's sound advice ive basically scraped by for a year, not tried to progress he business as it's been a tough time. This year I will be canvassing, buying all Wfp gear and really cracking on ;)
