Radiator in your van?
« on: February 02, 2012, 11:11:45 pm »
Got a 2000w oil filled rad from b n q today

Got it in now to keep the frost off

Just wondered how you use them ?

dont wanna leave it running all night , do you have a timer or thermostatic plug type set up ?
like this?

hi sean i leave mine on all night on 1500w setting(full blast)on cold nights.costs me around £1-50 a night in electric but worth it for no freezing pump/water or windscreen to scrape.

drained tank and brought trolley inside for now as not working again until monday! ;) ;D ;D
price higher/work harder!

sack the rad mate they dont circulate heat so when it gets really cold it wont save your gear

ask deege he found out the hard way!

get an osselating lecy fan heater with temp contol

agros do them and really cheap to run for peace of mind
keep it simple

Hi daz thanks for reply

I left everythin in there as figured radiator will keep it all ice free

Wasnt that bad last night but had frozen hoses , pump , and thick ice in tank

by the time id drove to b&q and bought everything though it had mostly thawed out as the sun was on the van ,

I dont like the idea of it running all night but like you say a few quid once a year wont do any harm

Might get a thermostatic plug like above to just keep the temperature constant and use less leccy

it needs a flue? Do you leave it mounted permanently in the van? Seems dear when my oil filled radiator cost ten times less. Has anyone tried insulating the van so that the heat stays in a bit more?

Has anyone tried insulating the van so that the heat stays in a bit more?

on my list of to do's. not cheap tho, best part of 200 quid. plus insulation. but think would be worth it to keep heat in better.

whats £200 ? ply ?

Mine is ply'd already , im thinking of leaving it in for this  , as i have managed to water tight my system

Just need to put some insulation behind it maybe , or maybe gavs propex heater is the way forward :)

Sadly Sean the guys right.
I started out with trying to use this, pleased as punch I was, remember it well when I went out the next morning and all was frozen :(
I could not work it out, so I did it again the next night. Same thing happened. I got a little space heater with a cut out works fine
