circulating water at night in van
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:28:47 pm »
has anyone seen or heard about this for van systems, using a thermostat connected to your pump and when it gets below set temp pump kicks in circulating water thus stops it freezing in hose/pump n tank (pump on lowest setting???
any ideas  :P Cheers
i luv my work, every day is a new dollar. Lol

water can freeze when it's running very slowly but not at a constant speed and if so it would have to be around -20

oil filled radiator does the job.around £40 for a half decent one.money well spent IMO.costs me around £1-50 a night in electric to wake up to a frost free van on cold mornings.

Also worth having a look at a Frost stat controller which will run with a diesel or calor gas heater.

I think that's a great advancement, looks fantastic, but is it really necessary? If you can't get a lead out to your van, I guess so, but a thermostat fan heater is easier, cheaper to run and does a better job I would imagine as it circulates the air. Have had the same fan heater in the van for the last 3 winters, and it's always frost free.

I like this idea.my concern is this-my back door has to be open for fume release as I have a fogwash. This would mean I have to leave the door open letting cold in, and obviously security issues. Drilling a hole in the roof isn't an option for me

A roof vent would be essential if you wanted to run the system with all doors closed,.. and to be honest I'd never recommend running a DIY hot system unattended unless you're 110% sure its been properly & competently installed.

Roof vents are cheap & easy to fit though,.. although I did cringe a little when I started cutting the hole in my van roof,...
