Purchased a broom
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:27:46 am »
recently.
It came with a spare handle and cost $10 (5 pounds).
I was so impressed with the lightweight brush with its generous amount of nicely splayed and slightly bouncy bristles that I fitted a couple of pencil jets and tried it out on some windows.
Very, very nice.  Ultra light with great scrubbing power but still gentle on the glass.
I sometimes wonder if expensive purpose made brushes are really necessary, especially for someone on a tight budget.

if someone is tight on budget then they are doing the job wrong IMO(as in the job should pay for the tools used, not aimed at you), £40 ish for a brush is not expensive imo.

Could I ask how long it took you to make the brush and what cost were the jets ?

I know people love making things which is cool, but purpose made brushes are necessary as some of us don't want to make them

It was just a fun excercise.
I made the jets myself very cheaply and could now make about 20 in an hour.
The brush took about 15 minutes to set up unless you count the shopping time (I was already in the store to purchase something else)
I dont consider the time wasted as I was at home with the family and watching tv at the same time.

your taking what I said wrong matey,

I made a pole myself to show others a few years back, and what your doing is cool.

my thought personally I don't want to sit making brushes.

what I was trying to work out how much it cost you to make the brush

I don't think a senior member of the forum would convert a brush to be cool. But he has a point are these brushes worth all they cash they cost. Try and get to grips with the story.

yes, but if you pretend to be a businessman instead of a window cleaner you can put people down. Good point though purpose made brushes are expensive for what they do. Not the suppliers fault I would imagine - the quantities are minute compared to the mass produced brooms. Fine too for someone on a tight budget - why not.

Oh, it was also threaded and matches the angle adapters on my poles.
Having been wfp for over three years now I (sadly) tend to notice a likely looking brush.
I have no idea how durable this one would be but it performs very well.
Total cost around 6 quid.

This has been done on here before and apparantly it works so why not? A brush is only a brush at the end of the day. A good idea.

ok I have to reply to the above as you feel the need to attack me for a veiw I have, so please let me put you straight mark etting and wizkid:

Snob = lol really hahahahaha you really don't know me at all

Cool is a phrase that I use for good, not sure if your english or from the getto like me (you know the uncool un snobby part of the world)

pretends to be a business man, I don't need to pretend, I do ok. I am not going to explain myself on that one as there is really know need, will put that down to you not knowing me and pre judging me.

let me make one thing clear for you. I do not have a problem with people that do diy and make things, I asked a question about the cost of the brush because that side interests me I was not attacking this guy for doing a brush I was interested.

me saying purpose made brushes are good as people is not being a snob, I can't be assed making brushes, and to be honest I would rather clean a house to pay for the brush (tool paying for it's self)

Winpro hit that nail on the head was going to say about Alex diy brush (bentley if I remember)

I made a pole vid a few years ago to help others do the same with a harris pole, look on youtube for wfp less than £30, I dont have the time to do this anymore and right now nor would I want to, (this point is  I can't be assed & don't have the time, just incase you want to try and read into this in anyway then post trying to make me look bad)

Sadly people like you stop people posting on here.

Snobbery comments are insulting, and if people did want to be snobs whats the harm anyway ?

Pretending to be a Business man comments, at least you think I am trying to pretend so that a step closer to me running a business  ::) I think I love you  :-*

Have an awesome day, I intend too  ;)

Ian

p.s to keep on post topic, I used to eye up brushes also lol, I would head straight for the brush section of any should to have a look (although don't tell anyone)

Well done to you I applaud you for what you have done here. I too think that some of the stuff we buy for wfp is totally over priced for what it is. Someone somewhere is making a mint out of us!!
Why don't you post a vid on you tube showing peeps how you did it etc. If more peeps went diy then maybe the suppliers would bring their prices down!!

agree with do the video thats a great idea.
The suppliers I doubt they would lower prices as most don't make thier brushes they sell generic ones. There is one person that makes brushes that deserves the price he sells them for as they do save you money in time and saves your body a workout aswell.
