A bit stereotypical to throw all poles under the same banner isn't it?

I'm sure some would make great employees and others not so great employees, just like the English/(insert other nationality here).

We had one when we did all the window cleaning.
Started off moaning he couldn't do it as fast as the other, of course in the end he was as fast.
Always on time and worked hard earning good money until ............. about 12 months in the attitude started >:(
Wanted/needed more money but wouldn't do the extra work for it.
Needed time off at very short notice (like on the morning) because wife needed to go to doctors about her toe (hardly life threatening)
Demanded this demanded that.

Finally on the 3rd time of threatening to quit, I wrote the resignation letter for him one night and got him to sign it when he arrived for work the next morning ;D

With hindsight I should have just paid him off at that point because he spent the next 7 days without speaking a single word to me, and so it came to pass that he was canvassing our customers to change over to him....... which none did.

Not content with that he then decided to confront my wife one day by waiting for me to drive away before appearing at the front door, but not quick enough for me to turn around and we had a right set to in the street.

Put me right off them for life.

  ???

Don't get me wrong I didn't have the belief that Poles should be forever grateful for giving them a job, but they are sexist and racist lot and quickly learn how to have the British employee attitude towards employers.
Come to think about it they should be grateful if we give them a job above British people.

And don't forget when they want something that suits them they speak and understand English brilliantly, but can quickly change to "I don't understand" when it doesn't suit them.

Nothing in your first post was specific to polish people though, and you still finish your post with "put you off them for life".

If you had said you wouldn't employ another pole because in your experience they are always getting homesick / always using the language barrier to their advantage / constantly needing extended time off to return home, then you would be right to be "put off them for life".

Fwiw my limited experience of poles:-

1, polish guy lives a couple of doors down from me. He's out the house every morning by 5:30 and returns home late at night, 6 days a week, he must work 70 hours +. nice guy and no doubt a great employee.

2, polish guy lives with his mrs opposite a friend of mine. Doesn't work, lives off uk benefits, constanly drunk and likes to knock his mrs about most nights.

Point is, everyone is an individual and should be judged as such imo.

The Polish have never been any different........even back to WW2, where my Dad served alongside them. Willing to help, willing to work, but once they had "no" said to them it all changed and they would become arrogant and detach themselves to their own little community :)

As with all nationalities you get good you get bad. :)

The main things that bugs me is that they don't seem to want to adapt to live in Britain, ok if you are here temporarily, but not on really if they stay here permanently.

The "I don't understand" really started to get on my nerves after a while, especially when you just knew he did :)

Thought the clue was in the subject of the thread!!

As with all the comments made on this thread, if you take the word polish out of your 2 options, it could relate to any nationality.

The OP asked a question abput Polish workers and he got answers based on peoples own experiences.
(why ask about UK workers when we already know that answer.......good and bad ;D)

You just confirmed EXACTLY the point of my post Helen, everyone is different regardless of nationality.

(which btw was more aimed at the guy who had a problem polish employee rather than the OP, but I made that perfectly clear)

Personally i still think the majority of british workers are the best you can get!! we used to employ poles when we had a building company (cheap labour) turned out very costly! my fault for being greedy...

I think it is an insult to our country and people to employ a Pole over a Brit, there are plently of good, honest, hard working British lads looking for employment, the only reason people employ Poles is because they are cheap, why are they cheap, because they get every benefit going, a council house waiting for them when they get to this country, plus the money goes back home into their economy!!! They are wasters, I used to live in a house next door to a rented place, which was rented to Poles (Eastern Europeans) A different family there every week, hundreds came and went, nothing but trouble, no respect for anyone around them, filthy living, bottle of Vodka for breakfast, lunch and dinner, oh and to top it off, just after we moved (after years of agro with them) we realised that it was a drug den after someone died from a drug overdose!!! Sorry if you disagree but I've seen it first hand, never met a decent one and doubt I ever will!!

Totally agree :)
I know where you are coming from :)

As the thread title suggests this is about experiences with polish employees, it just so happens that most of the comments could in fact relate to "anyone", but on this thread relate to the Polish employees that people may have had.
The "guy" who had a problem polish employee, gave his experiences as have others. All relating to experiences as the subject suggests.
The "guy" who had a problem polish employee, also had problem UK/other nationality employees, but the thread title didn't ask for these experiences. ;D (thankfully as the pages would now be at 5 or more ;D ;D)

I used to be in charge of about 100 poles.good workers at first whilst under agency as they sorted there accomadation etc but once full time they become lazy.
I would rather take on someone I know and think I can trust with no  dreams of starting up on there own.
Takings off all first cleans till march 7th 2014
October  total=  cleaned  extra per month
November = cleaned extra per month
Total £  so far.

I was under the impression you sold your window cleaning business.
