make up stains

Hi.

Can anyone give any recommendations on best way to remove what looks like make up on bedroom carpet.

Carpet is cheap cord hard wearing, only has a few small stains.

Using a hot water extractor, usually just use fabric rinse in machine and multi pro pre-spray, but would like suggestions in case that doesn't work. Don't know exactly what the stains are but there in a girls bedroom.

most make up is oil based so solvent usually required. Either solval spotter, solvex or citrus gel should do the trick. Be carefull not to rub as cord very thin. I also find cheap nail polish remover (acetate based) very usefull.

Acetone based (just to avoid confusion or disaster!)

But, amyl acetate (smells a bit like pear drops) can be a useful solvent... more for stuff like inks though - dog's danglies on printer ink cartridge spillages

I've just been to clean some nail varnish from a lounge carpet using acetone came off very well the gentleman who spilt the nail varnish was highly delighted as he had a £350 excess and gave me a tender tip he also stated that he would not let his daughter paint his nails again,a likely story  :o

Is it ok to use these spotters after trying with just the machine, so hot water extract then if that doesn't work, use the spotters.
Considering the carpet will then be damp?

Yes it is,  but if you use the spotters prior to extraction [ on a dry carpet]it will yield better results.

Prochem Solvex is the best product for make up. Pour it on, agitate a little which is important and extract out. If the make up stains are yellowy brown, its fake tan which will not come out!

Use to use POG now use white sprit (odourless one problem drying time somewhat longer)

I usually use Eco POG from solutions, Acetone or white spirit (odourless). Rinse all thoroughly after use. White spirit for me has been best on Mascara. The others for nail varnish etc.

I would be careful not to "pour it on" its very good stuff i use it all the time but it can delaminate carpets if missused

I try and use solvex too and then  and then extract with my spotter as i go on so not to leave any or as little in the carpet..

When I say pour, it meant more of a dribble! I use the bottle tops from prochem citrus jel so you can just squeeze a little out.

My preference when using liquid solvents on anything secondary backed is to apply to a towel then use that to apply on to the carpet.

Chemspec Spot Lifter works really well on make up stains (excl nail varnish) as it is a solvent/detergent mix.
