www.johnhewitt.com/consumables.htm seem to be cheap at the moment.

Apparently not all filters are the same.

I went for a higher grade one from Gaps Water than the one I usually buy.  I assumed I was wasting my money, but the filter that arrived was significantly different from the ones I'd bought before.  I'm not saying better (though Gaps were) just very, very different.

After shagging a membrane through what I suspect was  inadequate filtering, I no longer buy solely on price.  Mind, I have now gone to two particulate and three carbon, so I could probably use toilet rolls and get away with it.

interesting. I've always got mine from gaps water, but can probably get cheaper elsewhere (or might buy a bulk load to maximise postage costs).

didn't realise different levels of quality tho, how can you tell?

I don't know!

All I know is that June at Gaps surprised me by suggesting a more expensive (only 90p, I think) one.  The cheaper ones were like compressed paper, the expensive ones more like compressed cotton fibres.  So, VERY different but I have no way of knowing if better.  As I use two particulate filters I'm using one of each type.
