So how will I know if he has any PAYE and NIC to pay as currently he hasent been.

Also, surely I have to notify HM revenue each month?

you get a yellow book, call the hmrc ask them and they will explain it all to you mate, I personally pay my accountant as it find that a ballache that I can do without. I consenrate on earning money

She knows all employment laws etc, very cheap payslip sevice, and a BACS agent.
Takes all the hassle out of the equation.
They only do payroll so they know there stuff

...same as me but if it aint to much hassle then its gotta be worth saving £250 ish quid

Your accountant does seem to be charging you a lot, mine charges £10

james mine charges me £3 a slip,she advise me todo monthly as it only one slip,as if done week thats 4x£3=£12 amonth.

Register for paye services. It may take a few days for this to be confirmed back by HMRC.
Once you are registered, you go into you paye bit and fill in each employee's details.
Then you just go in each time you pay them, fill in the boxes with gross etc click next and it calc's NI and tax and gives the nett total. You can this and use as a payslip. It automatically totals up all the information over the paye year and files all on line automatically. It will also tell you when payments of tax and NI are due each time.
Sounds a bind, but once I have signed in, takes me about 2 minutes per set of figures.
I'll try and find a link to the actual page, but think that you have to be signed in to your private account with HMRC to do so

How long since you last did it.....yellow book they stopped sending those out years ago

The Inland Revenue will come and show you how to do it. They offered to come every week until I was happy with doing it.

They will give you a pack that has a lot of the information you need, its note that difficult.

Or you can purchase a payroll manager program.

It's simple to actually do. You don't even have to read all that info, just download the paye and go from there
Do you have on line access to your own personal HMRC account?
If yes, then all you have to do is follow what they tell you to do.
Can you click on a link which says register as an employer......of course you can, although you should already have registered a while ago.
Go to download and do so.
Follow instructions as you go....

Can you enter a letter in a box....yes you can
Can you enter the date, where it says enter date....yes you can
Can you answer a question where options are only yes or no.....yes you can
Can you enter numbers which will be the gross wage....yes you can
Can you click on a button that says next or continue.....yes you can.
Can you print from your computer....yes you can.
Done
