Hi guys

Just a warning to drain down pumps disconnect your pump filters or remove bulk of water from there to stop them splitting.

it is meant to be dipping way below freezing tonight and tomorrow leading into next week.

So I hope it stops someone finding out the hard way.  ;)

Nice one, it's properly nippy out there tonight and I have a car full that needs draining  ;D  I was being a little lazy and rushing for a Piza, but I think I'll go back and unload first.

I'm gonna put the oil rad in the van tonight, first time i have had to since we had all the snow last year, better to be safe than sorry!

just drained my pump

is there anything i can so i dont have to drain the pump in freezing weather will wraping the pump up with an old scarf work  ???

my tank and pipes are all lagged up but i forgot the pump  :-[

Hi,

Yep, it's gonna be cold tonight, my guys are out gritting at last again. Cold spell will last across the weekend and maybe into as long as Tuesday.

I recently changed the setup in the van to push fits into and out of the pump with solderless plugs for its electrics.  Can disconnect much quicker now and bring the pump in.  The rest I'm not too bothered about as I can drain that in a couple of minutes .
I can't get a safe heater into the van as I can't park nearby.

-1 nothing much to worry about, small rad or fan heater if poss just to keep it above zero.
If you're worried about the pump and you can't get near power to heat then wrap a couple of old thermal winter socks round it, I did that for 4 winters never had a problem

  I popped the heater in the van just to be on the safe side and lagged one of my taps outside the shed.
 Should be OK with lagging with scarf or rags Erith to -1ish.

yeah ive put mine in tonight! do you have yours on frost protection or do you turn it up a bit? ive turned my thermostate up about  one third of a dail

yeah, its just that i noticed one night it was about +2 c in the back and its ment to come on at +5  ??? very strange

simply I put this up to help others.
I had a freeze up this year which took hours to defrost, could have cracked pump and strainers as it did that couple of years ago.

So I guess from the posts people are happy I posted it.

And if it does help the people that read this thats even better.  ;)

yes mate you are right, I am in a sarcastic mood tonight, but to be honest I tend not to worry unless it is below -2 for long periods of time, but yes best to be prepared ;)
