[GB Window Cleaning]

so its just accured to me this morning that ive never replaced the prefilters in my new (ish) ro yet 

i got it new in june last year so its about 8 months old at the end of this month! the salt stuff in one of the prefilters looks brown, butits looked brown for a long time to be honest!

i live in a hard water area (around 300ppm out the tap) and i use approx 800 ltrs a week

im thinking its about time i should change prefilters so i dont ruin my ro membranes (thsts if i havnt already!  )

the thing is when i first got my ro it was coming out about 15ppm and just laterley its coming out the ro at 001ppm  i dont get it?


any help appreciated!

I change pre-filters about every 6 months.
A set of 10" filters cost around £15.

You're lucky GB - I live in lincs too and the water after RO is always about 14
Ive replaced my 10" pre-filters twice in the last year as well !!   (£6.90 delivered off eBay)

Sounds cheap. Is that for GAC,CTO and 5 micron sediment filters?

apparently the RO improves after a couple of runs. also the water quality from the tap, and pressure, can change, so worth checking that too.

I change my 2 pre filters (same as above) every 3 months, worth ipaying 7 quid to help RO last longer.

would definitely change it after that long (tho you dave different setup to me).

thanks everyone so far for the input im not even sure if mine uses 10" or 20" filters  it doesnt mention it anywhere in the instructions

Ah I see, my ro uses 3 pre-filters so they cost a little bit more for mine.

Probaly use about 1000-1200 ltrs a week.
Its more than likely your filters are the 10", its easy to check just measure the length of the filter housing  
ps. 10" filters are half the length of the 20" version

Depending on amount of water used/tds it is recommended to change prefitlers every 6 months.
Is that 001ppm after going through the resin?
I am sure your membranes will be ok although it is good at times to check the tds directly after ro and prior to resin to see how it is performing.
I have been looking at prefilter options myself and the sediment and carbon block filters are not expensive but the final chlorine filter (Chlorplus 10 on my ro) is around 20quid but I am wary if running the ro without it as apparantly chlorine kills membranes.
