Estate cars and wfp
« on: December 29, 2011, 11:09:23 am »
Anyone work out of a estate car, with ladders and a wfp backpack setup. Bit concerned that i will have to remove ladders everytime i want to get backpack out. If i put ladders further forward over bonnet and ladder clamp them down will i be able to open boot enough to get backpack out without scratching boot? Any pics?

I worked out of an estate in this way for a good few years; I bought a very short set of ladders, just big enough to reach 1st floor only; and to be honest I probably used these for access to flat roofs or over gates mostly.  I mean with a backpack, you clean the top windows with a pole.

And because these ladders were so short, I could put them well forward so the boot didn't interfere with the ladders.

when I first started trad, I used an easte car Astra and escorts, always positioned the ladders to I could open the boot and get out the tools.

The only thing about this is the ladders become top heavy so you need to watch where you take them off or you will get a dented bonnet.

If your not willing to learn, No one can help you, If you are determined to learn, No one can stop you ;)

Havent started my round yet but just recenty bought a Bmw e46 estate and got my roof bars and ladders on last week. I can open the boot (not all the way) to get the pram in so Im happy with that as going to be able to get my kit in and out. I reckon I could push my ladders even further untill they start toppling! Btw I have 3.0m double ladders.

Fancied a Passat when I was looking a few weeks back. Had one as a hire car (58 plate) a while back, really liked it! What size water barrels do you use in your Passat?

birdy i thought you tried wfp a few years ago for  18 months then went back to trad? ???

changed your mind again?its ok to admit you got it wrong!! ;D ;D ;Dyou ll manage with an  estate car and barrels but you d be better off getting a van and tank IMO.LESS HASSLE!.no time wasted on changing barrels which is a pain after a while.

best wishes

you can wfp from back of car with microbore
i jus choose to use backpack because the hose used to drive me crazy

i used a focus for a while i just used to leave my freedom trolley
i nback of car with barrels then run a half inch hose out of back of  car
to 50 mtrs of microbore, then have a longer intake hose to drop
into barrels put boot lid down so it would latch so be locked
but not shut.i would turn my trolley on and off by remote.

when barrel ran out, turn off with fob go back and drop hose
in new barrel took no time at all,and at end of day couple
of mins to get everything out.

only reason i changed to backpack was i couldnt stand
the hassle of hose and im personally happier with backpack
