Any truck mounter in North West?
« on: December 28, 2011, 02:19:46 pm »
Hey guys,

I've been cleaning carpets and upholstery for around 8 months now and currently averaging 2 jobs per day, mostly domestic with the odd commercial here and there.

I usually set appointments at 9am and 2pm to allow time for the job as well as time travelling from one job to another (which is usually 30 mins to 1 hour)

Although client satisfaction is very high and most ask for more cards after I'm done, I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the time it takes per job, especially commercials (on average I take 1 hour per room including setup/packup time)

Can't help thinking a truckmount or van mounted Jaguar+Zeta would help speed things up dramatically but would prefer the truckmount so no faffing about with power cords etc. Currently using an Airflex Turbo. I have the inline heater but use it very rarely as it just gets in the way when cleaning.

Is there anyone in the North West area who is truck-mounted or van-mounted (with heat) who would be willing to take me out with them for a day so I can see for myself what I'm missing out on?

I'm based in Preston and willing to travel anywhere in the North West.

Thanks in advance!

Anthony

Thanks Paul - will give him a bell after the New Year. I've heard about those ferry boat jobs of his.. apparently something of a military operation! :)

I run a prowler and you can come out with me, will be a few weeks though

Hi Dave,

That would be fantastic, thanks very much for the offer. I'll give you a call after the New Year to arrange a date and time most suitable for you.

Thanks again and look forward to meeting you.

Anthony

Hi Anthony,
I'm based in Chorley, but work a lot in the Preston area too.
That's the problem, you are a bit too close for us TMers working in the same area.
People are a bit spoilt in our part of the North West, with several TM operators, three of us which have a total of around
104 years experience between us.
I have helped guys before but they operate in different areas.
You may find someone who operates abit further away, willing to give you a day.
All the best.
Dave.

Hey Dave and Simon,

No problem at all and fully understandable :-)

Will look a bit further afield.

Cheers,

Anthony

Don't understand that. Get with local lads and you can pass jobs between each other and borrow equipment etc as needed

I agree with daves comment , when i first started M Halliday was more than willing to help, and always avalable for help and advise to this day, and mike is pnly 10 minutes away.

I am assuming, they  are a little worried about been in competion , how fickle ;)

I know what you are saying Dave but there is a limit. It is not sensible to spend time training your local competitors who within a short space of time may be taking the food from your table. This is business at the end of the day.. You would have to be very secure about your position in your local marketplace or plain daft to do it. After you have trained a few guys for free you would have less work but plenty of equipment to borrow ???

Geoff,

It was very nice of Mike to do that for you but commercially was it the right thing for him to do for his business?

Not at all sure why worrying about your competition is fickle ???

and look  how many times have you helped me on commercial jobs , just because you don't help them doesn't make them go away, better to make them a friend rather than a competitor

totally agree, plenty of work out there, would you rather your competitors praise you or slate you?

I've actually passed referrals on to Derek and Joe Hatton without even knowing them as I've moved away from Chester and know of their good reputation in the area. All about helping each other out when you can.

I always smile when people do not help people locally , I give and take jobs all the time from others locally.

I would train someone locally .  When I moved to Sheffield 10 years ago Shaun was straight round my house having a chat offering help and friendly advice.

When I moved to Bournemouth another poster from here also visited me for a chat , he got passed a customer yesterday by me who immediately gave him a £600 job with lots more to come in a large hotel.

Working together locally has many more benefits than downsides .
I clean carpets
I dry Buildings

Jason and others,

I  have no problem with helping other local carpet cleaners, passing jobs on, lending equipment etc. I do this all the time with no expectation of anything in return.

I would however draw the line at training my local competition and therefore I understand why some of the guys are reticent about helping Anthony.

Nigel i partly agree about training a competitor,  but he isn't asking for training  he just wants to see why he's missing out on  with not having a truckmount
