ive never collected and would just have cheques sent, over the years have introduced online, paypal etc. have been running online payments for about 2 years and has slowly gathered more people paying this way. i find it doesn't matter how easy you make it for customers regarding payments you will always get the slow payer or the ones that need chasing up, but it general i would say taking online payments slightly speeds payment up for the ones who are willing to do online banking..its online banking i push the most especially with new customers as if you get them in the habbit straight away they generally pay quicker and always online.
ps. i would say i'm about 50/50 now with cheques in post and online payments

Do it definitely. Been going about 14 months now and started online payments 2 months ago and it's brilliant; wish I had done it sooner. You'll still have to chase slow payers but that's always gonna be the case if we're honest with ourselves. The great thing is that your can do it from the comfort of your armchair by way of a text instead of wasting your time and fuel visiting their homes! Go for it.

good thing about paypal is you have their email address so if they are slow you can invoice them straight to their paypal account

I leave an invoice with payment details and also says i dont collect,  but i have one really annoying customer who is supposed to leave payment on day but never does, but texts next day to say payment has now been left. So i have to go back especially to pick up a tenner. It's not far at all, but it irritates the hell out of me.

If i was full, i would drop it, but i timed it yesterday and it is one of three terraced houses i do in half hour at a tenner each, so will keep it for now. I did once text back saying that the arrangement was that she leaves the money and she replied that it was the first time she had forgotten - not true and every time since I have had to go back. Dead annoying.

i started online in january targeted 1 area to see how it went . was well chuffed with the response .so tried anpther 2 areas all positive  .these are areas which are decent detatched houses and all used online banking and thought it a good idea . some pay the same day , but some take advantage a bit and leave it 3 months and pay 3 or 4 in one go. but im not bothered about that im not one of those who bumps a custy for not paying straight away. im pretty relaxed and theyu always pay in the end. it has taken 3 hours a month off my collecting . got it down to 2 hours aweek now . next year gonna target another area whicch i think will be positive. if your on top of your business and not stressed about cashfliowand trust your custys . most ot these ive had over 20 years  i would say defo go for it  im currently canvassing a new estate and that is the only option i give them now and not1 complained.  make sure you use a bank that shows the reference box    bazza ;)
