I don't use one.  Don't know about quicker as I've nothing to compare with.
It seems OK but I understand it's heavier on the battery as I have the option of diverting excess water back to the tank.  Therefore, I use it with a split charge relay.  Also, if I'm using older batteries, I tend to carry a spare so I can swap them over.
I guess it's a matter of preference.  I just feel that it's one less thing that can go wrong.

I've worked with the pump directly wired into loom - to be fair I probably did the same amount as I do now but the bloody battery was allways conking out especially in the winter, always phoning for jump starts (changed battery as well)
Got a controller now (had it for a year) works fine, van battery has never drained (albeit it is a new van) and I've never even charged it

I do, I have a 110ah battery on a split charger, and an on off switch for the pump.

Just have to fill the tank and off I go, no worries.
if it is dirty it is fair game

What's a digi controler?

I flick the switch and off I go.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

It would depend on how many litres your pump delivers.Eg If had a 3litre per min it would be fine but if you had 10 litre per min you would be out of water soon.

That's why you do a "return to tank" if you don't use a varistream.

I'm using an old analog variatream and a digital ecoflow next to each other on identical pumps. The digital is the easiest to set up as you don't have to take it apart. It also gives you a nice read out of the battery voltage. But the old varistream just works nicer, it has a soft start up feature, so it hardly never trips the pressure switch when it's dead ended. It comes on faster between windows. The old ones aren't really an option now though.
